My boss wants me to borrow his bike for a few weeks to put some miles on it before it has it's first service

he cant ride it himself as he's done his back in and has asked me if I could ride for him and leave my bike in his garage

its a 12 plate BMW f800

Am abit nervous as previously I have only ridden a xr 125 and currently have a cb500

might be abit of a speed difference for me...

Make sure you are covered first.

If you aren't he and you will feel the points on your licence. (6 and £200 fine)

That and go careful on someone elses bike... I've borrowed a fair few and it is still quite worrying when you are on them

Maybe displaying trade plates or registered to your work account possibly.

I'd want to have in writing that he is letting you use it and covered by the works policy

Get him to put you on his policy as a named rider.
Get him to put in writing and sign that he is allowing you to use the bike and what he intends to do in case of any damage that may occur to the bike and that you're not held responsible on your insurance, and that basically anything that happens goes through him, and in that he can't fire you from your job if anything does happen, make sure it is signed and dated, if he wont sign and date it decline the offer.

You could quite easily be shafted if you're not careful, personally I wouldn't.

To be honest, it can be serviced at 350 miles if the year is up on it.

You work at BMW so are covered on any BMW vehicles?

Does that mean I could buy a BMW car and not pay any insurance if I was employed by them? Thinking

Thumbs Up

Get a job with BMW.

Steal one.

You're insured to drive it.

Win! (ish)

Traders policies will often cover full time mechanics for their own vehicles as well - presumably the idea is that before doing this they'd just try and blag it, so by doing this it's less hassle for everyone.
