Basically I recieved a letter today off the police saying I was caught at 90mph on my bike, the problem is I wasn't riding, a lad I know had a go on my bike and obviously got caught by a mobile camera the idiot. Problem is this kid has recently moved to Bristol and I cannot get hold, of him, don't know any details.
Please help??

Surely you must know some details?
His first name?

Was he insured?
If not, you could possibly get done for no insurance too.

How about starting by requesting the picture to identify the rider, as you don't believe it was you?

Is there anything distinguishing about your bike? could you blag it wasn't yours? Buy a new number plate and say someone nicked the old one.

No officer, I wasn't driving then, this is a complete shock to me :O

I was at <location> as you can see by <alibi paperwork>
Or pay it and get your mate to fork up the cash.

Tbh, no sympathy, you let him ride it, probably didn't even have insurance. Good job champ.

Perverting the course of justice carries quite a serious rap if you are found guilty. If the lad was not insured there is also an offence along the lines of permitting / allowing him to ride your bike uninsured. Think long and hard about your next move.

if you refuse to give the name and address, or fail to do so, you will get 3 points for failing to provide details of rider/driver. If you own up then if it was a 30 zone, and bike was clocked at 90, then ban I think if in excess of 30mph over the displayed limit.

I got camered doing 115 in 70 and just binned the papers/letters from pigs, and then eventually it went to court and I got 3 points. However I didnt expect that and was just binning the paperwork to delay my ban.

so all good for me at that time. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up phew.

Request the photo evidence. You really have nothing to lose in this instance IMO.

If it was a national then yeah...anything under 40 I think would be a ban cause its double the limit...

seems strange that someone you know/trust enough to let them ride your bike would move away and not give you contact details...unless he knew he got clocked and decided to screw you over... Confused

Best of luck with that one. Very silly letting someone you don't even know go off with something that has such serious consequences for you when it goes wrong.

Couple of problems with this: how did you know that he had insurance, if you didn't see proof (which will include the guy's first name), and with regards to having no point of contact - how did he get in touch with you to organise the test ride originally?

For general reference, if you're looking at legal issues, it's best to go somewhere like pepipoo.com (retarded domain name, I know), and search through their old threads, before asking your question.

Stop panicking, start thinking.

Well it shouldn't be too difficult tracing him. There can't be many people around with a christian name like that.
