I know my insurance runs out this month.

According to askmid, i'm still insured. Cool

I can't find my policy or a bank statement to say who I paid.

No one has rung me for a quote and my renewal hasn't come through.

so how do I find out who i'm insured with? I really really can't remember as i've had many concussions since may last year and each
time I get a bit more forgetful Crying or Very sad

Ideas (other than ringing every insurance company in the book)

Doh!!

There's no way of actually finding out other than asking the MID to give you the information.

Starting from the top though - did you purchase online? Was it via a comparison site? If it was, then the quote will still be on your profile and it'll likely be the cheapest one you went with Laughing

Any emails from this time last year?

If your insurance runs out this month then why do you need to know who you are insured with? Surely you have the insurance documentation? Askmid will say you're insured until after the last day of the insurance term, so it doesn't mean you're insured for another year for free...

Why would the OP want to do that? If its only a month left to run, let it run and insure with someone else... Or wait for the renewal letter to come through. Although it would be useful to know who you're insured with for the purposes of No Claims bonus...

BTW, the OP is female. Wink

I'd probably either phone, or go to your local branch and they'll print you out your statement for whenever you want (might need ID though)

Marjay I want to find out who i'm insured with as my (probably overpriced) renewal has gone awol in the post and I wont want to renew it so I need to find out before this happens.

I've checked emails, I've raided paper work, I don't recall getting a policy but I remember paying £350 for it last may.

WTF, obviously I realize because my bike is still on the ID that I don't get a free years insurance.. really, why would you post that, who would believe that.

AskMID - I'm fairly sure you can pay for a disclosure statement which will tell you which insurer has entered the details. Certainly worth contacting to check.

If it was definitely last May and you know the amount - telephone your bank and ask them to look for the transaction to see where it went.

Im gonna be a cunt now but....

for the record in future, when you spend £350 on insurance its prob worth making sure you get a copy of your policy agreement and certificate to keep for instances like this AND make a mental note of the company. If you dont like reams of paper (like me) just get it emailed. What if you needed to claim or give your details to a 3rd party? I'd be pretty pissed if you crashed into me and then couldnt remember who your insurance was with. In fact, i'd probably call the police cause id think you had none.

Get a mate to phone up their insurer and say that you ran over their kitten and they want to sue you for emotional distress. Thumbs Up

Or, a Subject Access Request to the MIB or MID shouldn't cost more than a tenner.

"With limited exceptions you have the right to request a copy of the personal information the MIB holds about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (We charge £10 per information request.) Please address your request, with an appropriate fee, to the Compliance Manager, Linford Wood House, 6-12 Capital Drive, Milton Keynes, MK14 6XT (cheques should be made payable to the Motor Insurers' Bureau)."

If I was involved in an accident, no matter how 'trivial' I would disclose nothing to the other party without a police officer present, I don't give a shite if they lose their temper or don't want to wait around, I don't have to put up with attitudes like yours,

christmas eve 2 years ago some stupid fool, with not a thought for his actions parked his fiesta on the outside of a notoriously icy bend, Needless to say I glanced the bloody car with mine on the ice. the ape went mental. Like i'd done it on purpose. attitudes get you no where and make you look an idiot, so lets hope we don't even need to 'swap details' because you'll be hopping about in the street like a frog on coals and i'll be ringing the police regardless of fault.

I'm bored and tired of people who change their stories once they've had a word with their mates and think how they can get more money out of me or my insurance company, everything is photographed, video and done under the presence of a PO.

I think if you call the police for a minor nudge like that then you're the one who looks like they are overreacting. Seriously.

And yes, losing your insurance documents is monumentally silly. Its on the same sort of level as forgetting to do your MOT or being hahadumball.

May be wrong here, but I thought that to be insured you had to actually be in possession of a policy document?

If you're asked to produce, and you can't provide the certificate within 7 days / 14 days / whatever it is, what happens then?

I'd say riding around on the basis that "MID says yes" is also fairly dodgy - when you buy a policy, it often takes a few days to update, I wouldn't be surprised if it sometimes remains a few days after your actual policy expires.

You make no sense to me op

you take claims so seriously you would call the police to the scene of a very minor bump rather than swap details and yet....

you dont know who your insurance is with?

Have you checked any online banking?
They often keep stuff online for a lot longer these days.

You'd hope they'll at least send you proof of no claims through when it's done!

I know some of you live under rocks and not alot goes on in your lives, but actually in my life keeping track of an insurance document is a very small priority.

Thanks for your help guys,

I think i'll wait to see if it auto renews and then cancel/keep it.

Yes i'd call the police to a 'minor' incident as like I said, once the other party has had poison whispered in their ears the slightest bump can result in broken limbs and an attempt at a new vehicle on their part. Been there got the T-shirt. More fool you if you are involved in another human, where money is to be'gained' and you trust them...
