what do i do to get a replacment counterpart and photo card without the restriction on it.

i was told when you update the picture on you card or the address then the rest is automatically updated, i was pulled a few weeks ago and was told i was showing as still been on restriction it came up clear as day on the in car computer in big letters 33bhp restriction.

That won't remove the restriction.

I "lost" my counterpart - Royal Mail scumbags cant be trusted.

I luckily had the counterpart licence number thingy written down in my computer so I just put through a request to change address anyway (it's what I was originally doing) and that was fine. If you have lost it and need a replacement, I think it's about £30 (ish).

Not sure how restrictions work though

well my restriction should have ended 10/12/10 but when i was stopped a few months ago it showed in his volvo with all his gadgets i was a restricted license holder and when we go his little book from the boot and went through dates he just told me to ring dvla lol.

has anybody actually spoken to the dvla because iv tried all day with no luck.

i assumed it was like when you have a provisional and pass your car test you dont inform the dvla and the police know what license you hold.

The policeman was talking nonsense. The restriction ends after two years, and there is a date on your license to confirm it. When I sent off for my replacement photocard last year it returned without the restriction, although I have had an unrestricted license for ten years...

So tell DVLA you lost your license. They'll send you a new one for a small fee and it will have the 33bhp bit removed. (25kw)

Plod is absolutely wrong (as per bloody usual). It's his job to know the law, not yours, so should it happen again, whistle a cheery tune, tell him that you'll see him in court, and get all your costs awarded if he does something as daft as seize your bike.

As for the DVLA, you shouldn't have to do anything to get The Computer updated, but you can always contact them online.

And you don't have to get a new copy, but if you want one, you can order one online for £20. Just check the "lost" box - I try to keep at least two copies on the go at any time.

Be aware that the "From:" date on your new photocard will be the date that your 25kW restriction expired, i.e. 2 years after your test pass date. Do not lose your old copy, or your test pass certificate, you might need to to sort out one of the many insurers who ask vague and/or contradictory questions about your license entitlement.

I sent away for a replacement licence as my orignal was lost. I didn't do it online, I sent a form in because I wanted to update my photo while I was at it.

Restriction was removed and they moved the date of pass 2 years forward.

Unless saying it's lost online is different from that, I don't see why the restriction wouldn't be removed.

I've lost my licence twice since being out of restriction once I phoned them once I did it online, I still have <25kw on my licence.

I haven't sent mine off to be updated for this reason.
I don't want it to seem I've been riding 3 years instead of 5. after 10 years I'll be old enough it doesn't matter, but at the moment it would cost another 150 quid in insurance according to quotes on bikeinsurer.

Doesn't matter if it says 25kW on the back or not. You a restricted for a 2 year period only. When I've done trackdays or been pulled over non of them have payed attention to it as it has expired. I phoned DVLA and they said there is no need to have it removed because I will only incure a fee for doing so.

i took a photo copy of all relevant documents, photo card, counter part, V5 (soon to be insurance cover letter and any pass certficates) and kept them in a waterproof wallet in my bike jacket.

all the original documents are kept in a folder at home in a draw.

if i ever get pulled over i'll simply explain, heres photo copies of the documents and i will happily bring the originals to the police station (its like 5 minutes walk from me) and that i keep photo copies out with me instead of the originals to prevent accidental loss.

imo most coppers will be pretty happy with that if you explain your happy to take the originals to the station for viewing as lets face it, none of us want to loose our documents and as bike riders we dont have a nice safe glove compartment to store them in!
