Five weeks ago i lent my FZ6 to my brother, because his bike had a bald tyre. I have had that bike from new it is my pride and joy.
I didn't want to, but i got the whole sob story about no money etc etc.
I finally get it back yesterday after it has been ridden and and parked outside in the rain everyday during the wettest spring ever.
The right hand front fork seal is fucked the head bearings are all sloppy and there is a massive scratch on the left side of the frame.
I am so fucking pissed off!
He likes to wheelie, but i told him not to because my chain is not long for this world,it seems he ignored me. I was told that he was seen wheelying at about 90mph but i thought it was a wind up.
What annoys me more than anything is i bought an old XJ650 that i use for work just so my good bike doesn't get fucked.
Has anybody else got leeches for relatives? or is it just me?

Shocked

Fuck that.

I have a brother who'll use my bike every now and then (little 140cc one) and if he breaks it he is paying for the new parts. But no, nothing as bad as yours!

Yes I have one close relation who is like that, I won't say who just in case she figures out this is me! She borrows things - big or small - and breaks them and won't take responsibility. A lot of people are like that I'm afraid and all you can do is tell your brother NEVER AGAIN. He let you down once and he'll let you down twice if you let him so don't lend him anything else unless you don't mind it not coming back in one piece.

Why didn't you lend him your commuter if your FZ6 is so special to you?

Id definitely have a word. If he didn't give a monkeys then i'd be tempted to kick his bike over and see how he likes it.

He sounds like a young'un. How old is he?

I think he brought that whilst he was lending his FZ6.

OP, that sucks badly. I guess the only thing you have learned is not to give him anything anymore.

Or possibly have given him the money for a new tyre so he can pay you back?

Sounds like a bit of a bellend Thumbs Down

Oh dear, you've ripped your jeans.... you cant go out like that.... tell you what, my jeans aren't great, but I'll lend you my BEST suit trousers.....

NO! just NO! even if he wasn't a fuckwit; you don't do that! You lend the twat your Ratter and YOU ride the 'nice' bike to work for a few weeks!

Bloke cant afford to fix his own tyres..... did you REALLY expect he could afford to fix anything he did to your bike?

Even if it was the ratter, it wouldn't be great odds, would it?

AoE: Cant afford to look after his own bike, cant be arsed to look after his own bike; what's the chances he'll look after yours.

But then... you say the chain was on its last legs so told him no wheelies.... why your "pride and joy", running 'last-legs' components?

I'd be livid man! I'm nervous enough letting my dad ride my Hornet for a few miles, let alone 5 weeks!

I'd let him know how you feel about the condition of it, and possibly even threaten him to pay for it if he thinks you're joking Evil or Very Mad

I don't let anyone borrow anything valuable for this reason.
Unless it's a trial run or something quick like a lawnmower, anyone that needs to borrow your stuff is probably poor.

You don't want to lend a poor person your expensive stuff. If they break it, either you bankrupt them by having them fix it, or you have a broken item.

Damage is often hard to quantify as well. If someone drops your bike and smashes a fairing, how do you know there's no mechanical problem waiting to bite you? Just because it works fine now?

No, sorry, if you want to use my stuff, buy yourself one, I had to. No problem with my mates using stuff while I'm there, but not going off with it, they'll start to feel like it's theirs.

I'll happily let my old man use any of my vehicles, tools etc. He won't let me use his though.

My sister can't drive yet but when she can I reckon I'd lend her a car. She's stupid, but considerate.

We all have relatives that are leeches but I don't think that it is fair to blame him for the failure of the fork seal or the head bearings as these are items that will wear out under normal conditions of use.
I would, however. want to stab him to death if he didn't repair the scratch damage that he caused to the frame.

definition of lend gets stretched too easily with family. My dad often likes to borrow money but i rarely lend it, it's give it really as the cunt never pays it back

Um, did you read the post? Or maybe you don't wheelie a lot.

If you wheelie a lot and are particularly heavy with the landings it can fuck the head bearings quickly, and you can blow seals slamming them down hard.

I'd say it's irrelevant whether they were caused by neglect or not.
You're letting him use the bike - not letting him wear it out, there is a difference.

If he's paying for petrol, why shouldn't he pay for consumables? Fork seals, tyres if he's worn them down considerably, etc.

Otherwise you might as well just give him a few quid, it wouldn't have worn out as quickly had it been sitting in the garage.

Probably the way I would have dealt with it:

"OK, so your tyres is shot. WHAT ELSE is wrong with it? Bring it over WE'LL have a look at it.

Quick apraisal; tyres, new chain, some oil, decent service. Onto the net, price up bits.

Get him to take wheels off, take HIM to tyre dealership to get new ones. Pay for them, and start a 'tab'.

Put HIS bike back on the road, making HIM do the work he HASN'T to let it get in that state in the first place, and make it pretty transparent how much it all costs.....

Money may be harder to get back... but its ONLY money......

Meanwhile, lesson is learned, you wheelie your bike to shit, you have to fix it..... you dont get to fuck your own bike, and then given another out of 'pitty', to go fuck the same.

If he fucked his own bike after; sorry, we DONE this once and YOU STILL OWE ME £xxx..... STOP fucking your bike... not having one to fuck will teach you its worth...

Cant get to work? Go buy a push-bike or bus pass.

Need a sub? Here you are, £30, that's your bus fare till pay day, I'LL ADD IT TO THE TAB. (its STILL only 'money')

Leeches can only leech if you let them. And as LONG as some-one lets them leach and steps in to prop them up when they have been foolish so they never have to deal with it themselves and actually face the consequences of thier own actions..... they never will...

AMAZING how leeches can give you the sob-story, and "YOU are my ONLY hope"...... but tell them you cant help them, or simply refuse, or NOT give them the thing they REALLY want..... how 'actually' "Doesn't matter, Dad will lend me his car" or "Well, boss says, I can take van home"

Becouse so OFTEN its not that they CANT sort it, its that they dont WANT to sort it, or they WANT it sorted the way they tell you....

It's wanting the ice cream but not eating the dinner first syndrome.

There are 'fools' and then there are fool's fools......

I did something very similar with one of my brothers once after he had his car confiscated. Had to lend him my run around and I used my shiny one. Also had to stump up over half a grand to get his motor road worthy again. Made him get involved in the process as much as possible.

Has it changed his attitude or outlook? Has it fook, but he no longer asks me for money, especially as he cannot afford to pay me back.

My outlook is now he can do one. Unless its literally an emergency, my wallet is closed.

To the OP, he is family, and while that generally means you can give a little slack there is no need to let him take the piss. You can consider it a lesson learnt. He obviously has no consideration or respect for your stuff so let him jog on next time.
