I'm trying to work out the frame number of a Yamaha Fazer that I have. Its 19 digits long, however Google tells me VIN numbers should be 17 digits and the V5 application form only has 17 digits available.

I've tried a VIN checker without the first and last letter of the VIn (both X's) and it brings it back as a FZR600 Fazer which is correct, however on Motorverse VIN decoder it doesn't recognise the VIN at all so I'm not 100% sure if I have it correctly.

Any ideas?!

I'd remove that or atleast fill the main part with *'s

You could probably miss the X's, my frame number has weird 'E's ... it looks like a capital E but has no note on the V5

I think my RSV has its VIN surrounded by asterisks, are the Xs on the end meant to be part of the VIN or just marker type things? I reckon the motoverse site is wrong and the VIN minux the Xs is correct.

on my Yamaha scooter the VIN stamped on the frame is proceeded and followed by an asterisks
so goes *LPRSE000000000000* could look like an X if you don't get a good look, the other 2 lines
are very small and none of the decoding sites could decode it.

but putting the VIN in to the Yamaha parts catalogue came up with the correct model of bike.

Seems Yamaha doesn't always follow he correct way to produce VINs

pic of my vin below, as you can see the * does look like an X

Excellent, you sir are right! I used asterisks instead of x's on the Yamaha parts site and it returned the correct bike Thumbs Up thanks

on the V62 for the registration certificate you leave out the 2 *

so just use the letters and numbers.

done one a few weeks ago and it came back fine.
