Any recommendations?

Ideally, I would like some with knuckle armour rather than just padding.

I got some absolutley boss ones from Gerike, they have a double cuff to go both inside and outside your jacket. Warm and dry even after six hours in the pissing rain Thumbs Up

No armour though.

Ive got some belstaff ones, wore them on a very sweaty week of my das (scarey stuff) and now they still smell a year after Sick

They are warm, even better with thermal liners, but when it rains dont expect to have dry hands Sad

stinky- which ones are they? i'm thinking some rain gloves may be in order with the recent crappy weather, if it keeps like this i'm buying a boat.

Just thought i'd mention (since it seems relevent) apparently the trick is to really warm hands is.... wear first layer a wind barrier type glove (like knox cold killers e.t.c.) then latex gloves then your propper gloves, obviously a bit much for niping to the shop but usefull if your doing serious distance... only disavantage is slightly less movement in your hands, but its not enough to be a problem...

I' not sure what they are called. I think it is a new product, gore-tex with a neoprene inner cuff and a second cuff that velcros over the top of it. They were the only one with a double cuff and cost just shy of 60 quid.

Thanking you, sir. I'll have to go and invest in a copy, methinks.

Sadly all winter gloves feel like sitting in the bath in your wellies! Confused

For some reason I now have a mental image of the stereotypical HA type biker sitting stark naked in a bath wearing wellies.
Anyone have any bleach? I need to scrub my brain Sick

Also, what sort of riding do you want them for McJ? Short buzzy around stuff, or spending hours on a motorway? For the long distance stuff then I'd definitely recommend the two-finger beasties from Gericke. For the shorter stuff it's nice to be able to actually use your hands without taking the gloves off, so lighter weight gloves are better.

It will probably be 50 (or so) miles a day commute, motorway and/or dual carriageway.

For the last 4 winters I've not had any winter gloves so have had to make do with thawing out whenever I got to where I was going - not again.

I'm in the same situation McJam, I've been thinking about getting those mitt thingys that go on the handlebars instead, that way I can continue using the gloves I have. For now its back to holding my hands close to the exhaust pipes at every set of traffic lights Smile

Don't know what they're gonna be like though, anyone had any good/bad experiences with mitts?

Mitts are crap! They're very restrictive in my experience. Good gloves and heated grips solve most of the problems.

Plastic Moto-X brush guards are cheap and can be bodged to fit most bikes. Keeping the wind off is half the battle.

I've not found this to be the case, maybe it's a personal thing. They were a little wierd to start with, but once I was used to them I found they really did the trick (in combination with heated grips).

*grin* That brings back some memories. Winter time, couldn't afford any muffs so got some gaffa tape and a couple of 5 litre orange squash bottles. Cut one side off, gaffa tape to the handle bars of your maggot and make some holes in the bottom so they can drain (this was a later modification, after spending an hour on the M40 with my hands in bottles of water Neutral)
Muffs are good and right things, but really unsuited to anything with much of a fairing. The XJ was alright with them, but the ZZR...
Trust me, it didn't work Confused

I have pathetic circulation in my hands so it never takes much to make them freeze. I also have wee girly hands so wearing the average pair of winter gloves is like wearing a pair 10 times too big and hugely padded so I can't manage the controls very well. I've thought about heated gloves or heated grips but I've never known if they actually work?

I have heated grips that velcro round the normal grips. They do a not bad job, but obviously only heat one side of your hand while the other side remains cold. Makes your hands all sweaty. Still, better than nothing.

do they have to be wired to the bike somehow, or are they battery powered?

how much is a set of heated grips gonna set me back?

I like the idea of chopping up some bottles to make wind shields aswell Laughing Thumbs Up

They hook up to the battery. The cables are pretty long. You can also disconnect the grips while still keeping the wiring on the battery, and then reattach them later when needed. There's a little on off switch on the wire too. I'm pretty sure I managed to get them for £20 on ebay. I think they're normally £40.

Hi

I have some JTS cloven hooves. They work quite well and I do like them. Round town I have never found any decent gloves as the water tends to run down your slieve into them, however tightly you do them up. Current solution is to carry a spare pair of gloves Rolling Eyes .

Izzi. I have fairly small hands and tend to find heated grips are not that comfortable, especially the variety that velcro in place. I have some normal ones I fitted to the Divvy and they are not too bad, but still slightly too bulky. I find the bulk tends to make my hands ache.

I wired the heated grips up on the Divvy using the wire from the carb heaters. I used this as a trigger to a relay and then ran a wire direct from the battery to power the relay, and then powered the grips from this. This way I have heated grips that turn on and off with the ignition so I won't forget and kill the battery (or have some kid play and kill the battery while it is parked). The carb heater circuit was not the best choice (except that I could jusy plug it in without cutting any wires) as the carb heaters are not on all the time, but this isn't really a problem in the weather when the heated grips are useful.

All the best

Keith

I have a pair of heated grips, they are ok but given the £30 again i'd probably get somesort of brush guards and thermal liners, they are good at lower speeds, like fine on the country backoads to work but when you get out in the open at 70+ they wont do much for you....

Theoreciticaly if your warm at your core your body will keep you hands warm anyway, your hands get cold because your body is takeing heat back to your "core" so if you wear loads of jumpers under your leathers you should not really have as much problem with cold hands...

I dont kow if i'm quite ready to start cutting up milk cartons for hand warmers quite yet Razz (does anywhere know of good places to get cheepuns?, is a breakers worth trying?)
