Hi all
No1 daughter has got a 1989 CG125 which keeps blowing headlight bulbs. Its on its 3rd bulb in about 9 weeks. I'm using Halfords bulbs so not buying cheap ebay crap. The bulbs tend to go on her way home from work after the bike has been sat out all day.
Its got a new headlight on which is completely watertight so I know its not water ingress.
Any suggestions ?
Stu

Good point. If I put a voltmeter across the battery and rev the bike up what voltage would you expect to see ?

No expert but around 13.5V to 14.5V,are you using the correct wattage bulb?

if im correct these should be a 12v 35watt headlamp bulb?

another thing to check would be grounding as if theres a loose wire somewhere it could be causing a short.

my bikes a clone of these and had some issues with grounding blowing out the fuse and the bulb. might be worth checking all the connections in the lamp.

should be getting 14.5v~ on the multimeter from the battery

So once you confirmed it`s not a shorting issue?

It might be a good idea to look at the battery, I had a CG of lovelyness and it blew a couple of bulbs.
I checked all the earths/connections and all was good
It turned out that the battery was duff/not taking a charge/losing it`s charge VERY quickly.

Changed the battery = problem solved?
Might not work for you but it cured it in my case?

Right then, just been to start the bike and the first thing I noticed was the battery was completely flat, not even enough to show the neutral light. It started straight away on a kick and was showing 14.5V at the battery.
So, my theory is that the battery isnt holding charge so the bike is constantly throwing out 14.5V instead of intermittantly dropping to 12V when the battery is charged.
Does this make sense ?

Bit of an update on this.

I fitted a fully charged battery and checked the voltage again. It dropped to 12.8V so I'm fairly confident that the regulator is working ok and its down to the battery not holding charge.

I'm going to get a new battery on Friday and see how that goes

Just to give you an update. Turned out to be the battery. Now I've replaced it we only have 12.8V across the battery terminals instead of 14+ volts.
Oh, and "CG of lovliness" has stuck - Now thats what we call the bike Laughing
