okay, so the CBT lasts two years before you have to retake it.

the theory is valid for 2 years as well right? after than with no full liscence you have to retake it? (pretty BS imo if thats correct)

but what about mod 1?

how long is that pass valid for? because i hear the MOD1 is the easier of the 2 parts and im thinking after like 3/4 months of being out on the road i will probably go and do the theory and MOD1 and leave the (slighty?) harder MOD2 for a while longer until i have more experience ect

sound like a plan? just need to know the MOD1 validity length before you have to do it again and confirmation that the theory is valid for 2 years

thanks in advance!

your mod1 expires when your theory expires. even if you only took the mod1 2 days before your theory expires Rolling Eyes

BS indeed Thumbs Up

Notes on reverse of Mod 1 Pass Cert, Say, if you are exempt from Theory, (Ie you are doing a retest or licence upgrade as an existing full licence holder) you have 6-months from Mod1 pass to pass Mod 2.
Otherwise, Mod 1 is valid to expirey of Theory.

So 'yes' thats 'true'

hmm thats confusing actually. so lemme see if i get this right

example dates only

theory pass date 25/5/2012
mod1 pass date 25/5/2013
mod 2 pass date must be by the 25/11/2013 or by 25/5/2014?

If you HAVE a theory cert, then you are not theory exempt, so not confusing... Mod-1 would be valid till same date as Theory.

So, if you passed Theory 25/5/2012, it would expire 25/5/2014.

Wouldn't matter if you passed Mod 1 day after Theory, 26/5/2012 or day before Theory expired, 24/5/2014, would still expire the same day.

IF you DONT have a theory cert, becouse one of the rules says you dont need it;

SAY you took your tests first time round on a twist and go 100cc scooter, so hold a 'full' licence with A1 motorcycle entitlement (125cc only) with 'Automatic Only' endorsement....

To be able to ride a geared 125, you would have to put on L-Plates, becouse its not Automatic.... hence outside 'full' licence entitlement.

And if you wanted to 'upgrade' to either A1 without auto-only endorsement, or to a Full (restricted) A group licence, you would have to take tests over on geared and qualifying 125cc bike.

BUT you wouldn't have to re-do Theory, and I don't think you would need a CBT cert.

So you could book a Mod 1, any time you like and take it, on geared 125.

BUT it would only count towards a full licence if you took Mod 2 within 6 months.

Same if you were upgrading from A restrict to full A via Accelerated Access, testing over on a 'big-bike'.

so baring in mind im 25 years old and own a geared 125cc cruiser my best bet would be to do

1) CBT
2) Theory
3) MOD1 (for geared 125 motorcycles not mopeds/scooters)
4) MOD2 (as above)

and basicaly just make sure all 4 are done within the 24 month "grace" period right?

sorry about the repeating reworded questions, i just simply cant afford to keep on retaking tests because of things running out lol

also, what happens with the expiration date if you do your MOD1 then Theory before mod 1 runs out? does the date carry over to end of the theory?

this licensing stuff is all very silly. why not just give it all a universal period?

also, once you have a theory, CBT, MOD1 and mod2 certificate, what do you do with the license and the dvla?

also, when i get these pass certificates, can i get them copied at a solicitors, signed as originals and send the "copies" into them instead of the originals? frankly i don't like sending them original documents at the best of times let alone when they have a history of loosing information like license entitlements

Not really, the CBT is designed as a route into a full licence, the idea is not to have people riding around on L plates for ever and a day.

Sorry, confused, where are you thinking of sending them, and why?

to the DVLA for proof of entitlement? i assume your meant to send these in along with one of the forms you apply for your liscence with but filling out the relevant parts (i.e name, address blah blah and "add entitlement" section)

You can't do this, you have to take your theory before you can take your MOD1. Stop farting around and just take them.

You take your licence (both parts, with provisional entitlement), CBT certificate, theory test pass certificate along with you for the Mod 1.
You pass and get a Mod 1 pass certificate.
You take all of the above paperwork along to the Mod 2.
You pass and get a Mod 2 pass certificate.
Examiner will take your licence off you and send the details to the DVLA. You should get your new licence within 3 weeks. The pass certificate acts in place of your licence in the mean time...
