Yes mate, I'll be there. Wanted to do the Saturday but it'd sold out.

Weather looks alright Thumbs Up

Bit concerned about my rear tyre but we'll see how it goes. I pushed too hard on it before it'd got some heat in it when it was very cold at Snetterton in March and tore the side up pretty badly Brick Wall

What group you in?

I think it was the noise limit that made me book the Sunday rather than Saturday, my bike was 105 Db with the baffles in when I had it sound checked at Mallory (bang on the limit which was lucky!). Had the baffles modified at the garage now though and picking them up tomorrow so will be interested in what it’s at now!

You on your ZX6? Pop over and say hello if you see a red FZ6 on a trailer being towed by a silver corsa with a ‘flag’ racing strip over it (I’ll post up a picture later). Thumbs Up

Think I’m going to be with a few mates, should be 3-4 of us hopefully!

I'll be in the advanced group on a tatty red G2. Usually park at the side of the pit lane alongside the garages so the sun warms up my tyres a bit as I don't have tyre warmers Laughing

Still having problems with braking stability so not sure how well I'll be running but I'm hoping that a few sessions might clean up the side of the tyre at least.

Have you done this layout before?

Ah cool, well if I spot you I'll pop over and say hello!

First time at Rockingham and only my second track day so put myself in the Novice group, hopefully I'll get moved up to the inters for the afternoon if there's room though!

Got any tips for the track?

You got sound checked at Mallory?!

I've never heard of that happening ever. Ever ever.

Yeah I heard they never used to but they do now, just a static sound check at the start of the first session. None of this drive by bullshit after that.

Not really but I've got some videos up of the last one I did there on my you tube channel (Biotaw1). It's a good track, really enjoyed it. I suppose one thing is to say that on the last corner before the pit straight you hit the banking whilst already cranked over so it's quite easy to ground your peg out quite violently but you can push hard through it as you suddenly get more grip at the same time. Might be less of a problem on your bike as your suspension is probably a bit less jelly like than mine Laughing

Turns out I'm not going to be there on the Sunday after all as they've got a space on the Saturday for me now Cool I like to have a day to recover before going back to work plus it's £26 cheaper (which they're refunding unbelievably).

Have fun though...I'll try not to crash so spectacularly that I somehow put the track out of action for you on Sunday Laughing

Yeah will do. I do quite a few, aiming for at least one or two a month this year always at Rockingham, Bedford, Snetterton and Silverstone but I'd like to try Brands and Cadwell at some point too. Brands is often a bit pricey and Cadwell's a bit far as I have to ride to them but I'm going to get bored of the others sooner or later...apart from Silverstone, I love that Cool

Just got back...god I love that track Cool

I had a close call on the second hairpin...out of the seat near high side job.

Don't let it put you off though, it was very grippy today...I was just showboating to the people watching on that corner by sliding out of it and overdid it Embarassed

Just watched it...that must have taken ages all that editing Laughing

Novice group is bloody terrifying with people all going at wildly different speeds and changing lines erratically...get yourself into inters Thumbs Up

What sort of lap times were you getting?

It didn't take that long actually, I quite enjoy making the videos anyway so didn't mind. Thumbs Up

Yeah definitely going to put myself in the inters next time, I know I can go faster by staying on the power longer and braking later instead of using engine braking sometimes! Just building the pace up a bit every time I'm on the track but I can see where I can improve just need to work on it. Smile

Edit: Realised that the photo album was just labelled wrong, though he had another album for the 12th but it's just the 13th.

Well I always think that the difference between the groups is as follows...

Novice group tends to be people not fussed about going fast or new to trackdays who don't have the confidence to lean as far as they could (not criticising at all, just saying).

Inters riders tend to be getting decent lean angles (knees and pegs down) but not braking as hard as they could or as late into corners and not getting on the power as early or as hard so they look as quick mid corner but aren't quite getting the laptimes.

Fast group riders are combining the lean angles with harder braking and getting the power on earlier and the variation in speeds between them is in how much they're pushing those parameters.

Basically I think if you're even just getting your knee down you should definitely be in Inters already and then if you find you're quicker than most move up into the fast group. I don't think there would be much difference in mid corner speeds between Inters pace and Fast group pace but the track inbetween corners is eaten up much more quickly in the latter group.

Either way, don't hang around in Novice because it's bloody dangerous and you'll find you'll improve much quicker in a faster group too.

Yeah definitely putting myself in inters for the bank holiday coming up! Thumbs Up

Picking myself up a 2000 ZX6R on Saturday Very Happy can't wait! Decided I need to upgrade seeing as I have at least 5/6 track days lined up and it is a perfect bike for a track bike project for when I take it off the road and get myself a car for winter!

I'll post up some pictures when I get it. Thumbs Up
