Hi guys,

I am new to this forum!

I was wondering if someone could help me regarding the following question;

Today I passed my theory test and want to book my modules 1 and 2. I have been told that the Direct Access course (module 1 and 2) will cost me 535 quid. I have had a 600cc motorcycle and a foreign licence for 5 years prior coming to UK.

I have looked online, and it says that these 2 modules cost about 31 pounds each. Why am I being quoted 535 pounds??

Surely, there must be another way of getting your full licence without going through a riding school?

I am 31 years old by the way.

I would be thankful if someone could advise me on this.

Thank you

I presume you've done your CBT, most do that befoer the theory, but if not, then that's around £100.
MOD 1 is £15.50
MOD 2 is £75

The £500 odd is generally for a few days lessons, and bike hire for the tests, if you shop around, you can get the tests included in this. If you're doing it on anything bigger than a125, then you'll need a qualified instructor in radio contact getting to and from the tests.

Your problem will be getting to and from the test centre on your 600, also getting insirance without a license.

Yeah, CBT is done.

I haven't bought my bike yet. (600cc) The final test is included in the 535 fee, yes.

Judging from what you said, I guess it is the only route =)

It's the only (practical) route if you want an unrestricted license. You could always get a 125 and take your tests on that. That would allow you up to 33bhp for two years, then unrestricted Very Happy

Well you can book your two tests, mod1 and 2 on : https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/Doitonlinemotoring/DG_197299

But you need a bike to ride if im not mistaken! The problem for you is, you dont need to take a DAS (as you have ridden a motorcycle for a number of years) for the training but just for the tests!

Id recommend doing the shortest amount of time possible, either 2day or 3 days depending on the centre! Shame tho Crying or Very sad

When I was doing my CBT (which was freaking hillarious by the way) the instructor said that it wouldn't take me more than 2 days.

I guess I'll have to open the wallet and get it over with. Oh well!

There's no requirement to have lessons. You can book the tests yourself - you want the "Big Bike" test.

You'll need to buy a bike (35kW+), get it insured on your provisional license (you'll have to look around proper bike insurers for this), and find some legal way to get it to the test centre: trailer, van, get a mate with a license and appropriate insurance to ride it there. Or ride it there yourself, not legally, but you're a big boy, you can make that decision for yourself.

The bike will need to have L plates front and rear. There's no requirement for you to wear a hi-vis vest, but wear one anyway so that you don't fail the Attitude part of the test.
