Just got back in from the 3 hour lesson. Now, dont get my wrong, was a nice ride, but i thought we were suposed to be practicing for a mod 1 test, not a fucking CBT. It was my 1st (and only lesson after this,) but surly it doesnt take 3 hours too "test my riding ability." Is this standard procedure or have i wasted £50 on something i do every day too and from work?[/quote]

Well for mod 1 it was a bit of waste, on the other hand, it's a ride with an instructor behind you so you could always contribute that lesson to Mod 2?

Mod 1 is mostly slow maneuvers much the same as what you do on CBT. If you have just spent a few hours going around a car park in first gear using your clutch, doing U turns etc then you have been doing prep work for mod 1.

Yeh that was a waste of money, but good for Mod 2.

If you have a bike already, just get out on a car park and practise U turns, slaloms etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYOUWHrqDJg

as well as many other videos on youtube if you search Mod 1.

Remember silly things like life savers (even though you are in a closed off parking lot, especially before setting off and U turn bla bla.

It is a piece of piss, it really is. Just cover the back brake for the emergency stop to reduce any chance of locking the back.

This! Do this. I don't mind meeting up and showing you a couple of bits and bobs if you really want to have someone to 'tutor' you. Thumbs Up

Mod 1 lesson should be off raod and preferably on a course layed out the same as the test.

Did they tell you anything about whats exspected of you on the test??

Seems very poor to me. Maybe you were put in the wrong group, mix up like and you got mod 2 training.

Google Mod 1 course layout, go to local car park and practice it. You don't need a sodding lesson for it. Sounds like you had a mod 2 lesson though.

Also, what happens if you do pass your Mod 1 but can't get a date for Mod 2 before your CBT runs out? How does that work? I'm sure the theory test comes into this somewhere as well...

If you can do the U-turn and the slow walking pace ride, the rest is easy. For the slalom and emergency stop, just get used to gunning it in 2nd to get up to speed. I did my mod 1 practice in the empty, massive car park at Cheltenham racecourse, do you have something similar?

Go and practice in a car park and take up Benson's offer. Oh and it's Mod 2 you absolutely can't afford to fail, Mod1 is less than 20 quid isn't it? Mod 2 is much more expensive.

Yes.

What, you expected a Teflonian post? You're a mug for paying for training for a £15.50 test, and worse for not telling your employee what he needed to do to earn his money.

If you are paying an instructor for Mod1 training then this is right.

This is how I used to do it:

You should have been off road in a training area marked out to the measurements of the DVLA course.

I would expect the correct couloured cones or space markers to be used so that on the day it all looks familiar. Also for you to have practiced both a right and left hand course.

You should have been taken through the entire test, from the manual handling to the emergency stop, including when/where to carry out lifesavers etc.

A good instructor would use a handheld speed gun to check you are getting up to the right speed for the avoidance/e-stop.

If you paid for Mod1 training why did you not flag this up during your lesson? If you are not happy - complain and ask for a free lesson.
