ever tried asking to read the policy details before committing?

near on impossible to get them to email or send out the policy details before committing money to the bloody company to ensure everything is correct!

swinton, rampdale, and mce all refused to do so.

even stating its a legal right to read a contract before agreeing to it these companies dont seem to care!

Had exactly same thing with one of the brokers. They did not have website to buy insurance.
Asked them for policy details and they said they can't send them by email or post, but I can order and cancel within 10 days. Could not be bothered with that so went elsewhere

Find the cheapest quote, call them up about what you're interested in reading about. Buy insurance, check paperwork and cancel within 10days or whatever if it isn't what they said it is.

I use all comparison websites, been doing for years with cars, done with bike this year. At least you can see T&C online.

And therein lies the problem (most broker's definition of 'reasonable fees'). I'm with the OP on this, although i don't know whether its actually a legal right to see the paperwork first, only that it should be. It's a total farce, particularly when cancellation terms etc matter to you!

The Statute says that they can't charge a "cancellation fee", but they can charge you for their (reasonable) costs incurred in setting up the policy.

Of course, if you've agreed to a "cancellation fee" then they can charge you anything that they like. Oh, didn't you read your contract?

Some of them really do rip the piss, charging £75+ to cancel from the get-go. They'll do it for as long as they get away with it, and I suspect this is how the worst ones are making their money now.
