Looking for some info on high mileage hornets? Looking at a 2002 and a 98.

All the ones around at the moment seem to have a large mileage count on them. I'm not averse to this if the models can take it! A friend had one from 23k to 58k and it was fine.

Only ever had rfs and gts with stupid mileage before.

What tends to go on these? I presume valves are a 20k interval jobby as normal? And cam chain servicing?

Does the frame rust, swinger corrode etc in any places not easily visible?

I'm aware there is a fucktonne of information on hornets if I'd used the search but specifics are a pita to go through lots of threads.

Cheers

Well mine currently stands at 36k miles, I did the valve clearances at 22k, no need for the cam chain as I have had no noises etc off the bike, maybe I'm lucky there.

As for corrosion, mine is tip top, frame and swing arm are very good for the miles so far, but each bike maybe different.

I have noticed some corrosion on the yokes top and bottom. so maybe they are prone rust.

Bottom yoke in particular is prone to rust. Fork legs pit easily. The plate thingummybobs that bolt the downpipes to the engine rust like fuck and need replacing or painting. Everything else polishes up nicely and the paint is generally tough too.

Oh and get the 02. It has a 17" front wheel rather than a 16".

I've got a 2003, 39k miles, curretly have the camchain rattle so will have to get that sorted. Apart from that i don't see much rust anyway, if at all! I do clean her every other weekend so that helps i guess.

+1 for the 2002 though, 17" is the way forward Thumbs Up

Valve clearances are every 16k, mines just hit that so can't really comment on anything else. The weak points as with most Hondas are the cct's and the reg/rec but if it's got some mileage on it then these probably would have been sorted by now

And yeah go for the 02 so you can have a better tyre choice
