Hi Guys,

Loving my Honda CBR 600 F! Thing is, I'm not as confident on this one, very wary and cautious, and my cornering has suffered greatly as a result. I don't know what speeds to take them at, the bike is much heavier so I don't know how to corner correctly etc.. (took a corner too fast yesterday, had to throttle off on mid-corner and let the bike jump up onto the pavement slowly)..

Basically I was wondering if anyone has advice on corners and whether or not advanced training for corners is available?

Go do some advanced training (if funds allow), it covers corners and alot of other stuff + its fun.

My 2p worth re cornering - make sure you are relaxed going into the corner, go in slow, accelerate smoothly when you can see the exit of the corner. What helped me alot was ensuring that the balls of my feet / toes were on the pegs (rather than your instep), relax your arms (grip with your knees if it helps). Look where you want to go (at the vanishing point of the bend), not at the bit of road just in front of your bike.

Alternatively go touring, after going up and down a mountain and facing hairpin after hairpin your cornering WILL improve (or you'll fall off Wink

).

Look up your local IAM or RoSPA, get an assessed ride, take it from there.

Its a matter of getting to know the bike too, baby steps.

On good tyres your pegs will be dragging along the ground before you run out of grip. Just a matter of more lean and the right technique.

That said I'm nowhere near that confident myself, but then I ride to work and back more than for fun, so don't often find myself pushing my limits.

i did a bikesafe (ages ago) and it was good fun plus it was only a tenner! it was a bit wierd having a police rider telling me to hurry up though haha

Advanced training should definitely give you the confidence to know you can make a corner etc.

IAM at least is usually run from the Motorcycle Roadcraft book, so it's worth getting a copy of that anyway.

The IAM group I went to offered a free first day so you can 'try it out'.

It's also worth considering doing a trackday; which should give you a lot of confidence in what your bike can do.
