And somehow survived unscathed with not a mark on the bike?

Was travelling along at about 45/50 got round a small bend, when I saw the dpd delivery lorry pulling out of the street, started slowing down as much as i could and thinking 'he'll see me soon and stop'.
Did he ? No.
He didnt see me until im near enough in front of him looking hopfully for a space infront of him to get by, but he stopped slap bang across both lanes against the kerb.

So I was thinking 'lorry?... Kerb?... Lorry?... Kerb?'

I headed straight for the kerb and hung on, literally lifted off, landed about 10 ft away had a huge wobble on and stopped with my nose in a hedge.

I think the thing that saved me was the fact the kerbs were posh rounded ones not completely square ones.

When the driver got out, after the obligatory 'sorry mate i didnt see ya' he moved his lorry out of the road and said 'How the f!ck are you still standing with the bike upright?!

Now im home my wrist is hurting... quite a bit!

Hard to see from the diagram but the bend looks fairly shallow. Didn't you see him early enough to brake or did you just keep going thinking he would see you and stop?
Looks like a defensive riding failure to me Confused

Glad your ok fella. Close one.

I've found myself getting into the habit of doing 'the weave' in these situations and I'm fairly sure its had an effect at least once so far. Wink

Hard to know the situation and how quick it all happens without being there, but theory/hindsight says you should have beeped as he started coming out, but also slowed down to a point where you'd be able to stop in time - trouble with that lovely theory is you risk him thinking you're letting him out or something daft!

Glad to hear that you're still standing bro Thumbs Up

I had a SMIDSY that involved a lorry some time ago - I was in the right hand lane overtaking a lorry, I was trying to get past him as quick as I could to make sure I didn't get caught out by him. I was just level with his door and suddenly I see his cab moving across infront of me, so I slam on the brakes, and the bike goes under the lorry. Luckily I went the other way and hit the central reservation.

When I was lifting the bike up I noticed that the lorry was Polish, left-handed which is obviously why he didn't see me - I could see his mirrors the whole time I was overtaking him - he obviously didn't check them.

Yup the horn... I thought after why the hell didnt I beep the horn.

but its kinda hard in that situation to think about horns Razz

I didnt have enough to slow time to slow down much, he did the whole 'wait until the bike is closer to me then pull out' Where you think his already seen you?

My part of the blame; probably should have been going slower.. but hey we learn from out mistakes?

I had a blooming yellow jacket, white helmet and lights on... he said i wasnt visable enough Razz

My wrist is rather sore right now however.
Oh btw, im a 'lady' Razz

So with only a few feet of lorry in front, and god knows how much behind Shocked you brake..... Embarassed
as you were already going faster, you should have easily cleared the few feet before he got across the lane.

Next time pin it.... Thumbs Up
