My name is mistergixer, and it's been over 2 years since I last rode a bike.

I sold my last gixer for multiple reasons, fear of custodial sentence for excessive speed, mrsgixer was preggers and I became aware of my mortality, but mostly because I'd got a bit bored of it all.

However, in the last few weeks, I've really had the urge and wished i had a bike again.

Trouble is, I'm fucking skint at the mo, and can't really afford anything 'decent'. But, I need to scratch that itch!!

So, any suggestions for something cheap, cheerful - and above all with the fun factor that will give me what I crave.....??

Buy an old two-smoke twin 125, do it up/tune it up a bit and go hunting bigger four-stokes Smile

Cheapish and fun Thumbs Up

I'll just stick to my usual recommendation of the GPZ500 - cheap as fuck, nothing special compared to what you mighta had before, but gets you back on the road fairly cheap and gets you out and about for not bad of a hack.

Like the suggestion of the GPZ500 but depends if you're looking for a weekend runaround, a commuter or a bit of everything.

For something sporty there's still the 400 pocket rockets out there. Others will have to advise the best to choose as not really my scene.

Let us know what you get.

Thumbs Up

Some sort of cruiser. Should put you off bikes for another couple of years so you can get saving.

Get an old gixer...get the old clobber on and thrash it around your nearest track.

Or, get a muscle bike and eat flies until you get bored again.

Tricky choices you have. Luckily I'm still not bored (9yrs riding and I'm still learning)and don't seem to crave the need for mega speed (most of the time, but if I did I'd be looking at trackdays, dirtbikes..grasstracking. Maybe even a trials bike.

Reckon whatever you do you'll feel the better for it. Bikes do have a nice way of feeding the soul.

Some good suggestions there folks, thanks.

I've had MX bikes before, but doubt I'd have another - I spent most of the time either blowing them up and rebuilding them, crashing them and rebuilding them, or crashing them and then rebuilding myself. Plus I don't have a van anymore to lug it around, and there's few places left local to me to ride it.

Trackday bike appeals, but again I lack means to transport it, and also lack the funds to do many trackdays - much as I love to do them.

I think what I really want is a cheap-as-chips road bike, that I can take out on the odd spin. I've found recently that I've even lost the urge to drive hard like I (continually) used too - fuck, perhaps I'm growing up/getting old...

@RobW - what sort of money are you looking for for the blandit?

^ this. But I've been looking at ZZR prices recently, not so cheap anymore. I got my, let's say, cosmetically tired E7 (99reg) with 12 months MOT for £900. Like fuck can you find one that cheap now...

If you still want a reasonably modern, capable sportsbike but don't want to spend the cash I reckon old ZX6Rs are the cheapest bet.

Mine was £850 and has done 10 or so trackdays with no major issues.

As Howling Terror said...if mortality and the popo are concerning you just do trackdays or take up greenlaning.

Actually, just thought...you could maybe buy my CB-1 that I keep failing to getting round to advertising. Cheap and fun without being too quick.

I reckon the G model ZX6Rs are arguably cheaper to buy than these and inarguably superior in just about every measurable way.

I'm not some kind of Ninja fan boy, in fact I don't particularly like mine in many ways but when I was trying to get the most capable bike I could for less than a grand it popped up as the best choice by far.

They're called a "vagina" and "breasts", you sexist pig. Tut Tut

Eh, now I'm thinking about that Granny Porn that Warped keeps posting. Sick

OT, I've got no complaints about my GPZ500 yet apart from the tarded link pipe on the stock exhaust. Nothing faster to compare it to, but it goes as fast as I want it to go, and I can vouch for it being much cheapness, many bargains.
