What is the worst bike you've ever owned, and what crap did it put you through?

My first "big" bike, a 1998 Kawasaki ER-5 A1, At first I loved it, then realised I couldn't afford it.
Then it decided it was going to need new shocks to pass its MoT, then the rectifier went and took out 2 batteries with it, and had 3 speedo cables....it didn't stay with me long!

I bought a CBX 550 'cos it was fairly cheap, and I needed transport for work, blew it up after 3 weeks, bought a recon engine and blew that up on the way home from picking it up. It rode like shit and ended up costing me a fortune. Not great given that they were renowned for being reliable. Thumbs Down

RG250 mk3. I know two strokes can be unreliable but this really took the p**S! It wouldn't go at all if it rained, when it did it was slow and handled abysmally!

Ah MCN's 1982 Bike of The Year, that turned out to be an absolute dog, had major problems with the camchain and tensioner if I remember correctly.

Probably the CB100N.

Marginally faster top speed than the H100, but less reliable, slower accelerating and using more petrol.

All the best

VFR400 NC24.

Some days it was good, some days it was bad. Never found out what was wrong with it, found a total mug to sell it on to. At a profit.

I don't buy shite bikes.

The worst bike I have ridden was a 600 diversion...utterly mundane and uninspiring in all respects. A lacklusture, wallowing, slug of a bike.

This is from someone who has ridden a Soviet home market version of the Ural 650, at least it had character.

Hi

I have a 600 Diversion, bought for commuting.

Worthy but dull.

Handling is actually OK, and it will do around 120, but it is just a bit boring really.

Trouble was I would go into the garage, look at the Divvy and then think stuff it and take the Bandit.

To be honest as a motorway bike it is actually very good. Crank it up to speed and it happily sits there. Comfy riding position and good fairing. Trouble was that my journey to work has about 1/4 of a mile of dual carraigeway, but an awful lot of small back lanes.

All the best

Keith

Haven't owned any dogs, but the bike I suppose could be regarded as the worst was a CB100N. It got me through my test, but couldn't hold a tune for more than 100 miles. Taught me a lot about engines though Smile

My first ptw, a Yamaha JogR. Bought it new (ow!) The exhaust dropped off after 3 months. The electrics went funny after six months. It fell over once, I just looked at it I swear!

It was only a 50cc Ped.

My second bike, an Aprilia RS125 Extrema, again not the bikes fault.

I bought it from a certain Aprilia dealer in the West Midlands who will remain nameless. Rolling Eyes Wink

I was assured by the salesman than it had never been thrashed, "no, it's just been brought into the country by us. Some Italian lad had it for cruising around the cafes". Bollocks!

It blew it's top end just outside of the 3 month warranty at 80mph in the outside lane of a dual carriageway. They fitted a big bore kit to it, "It's really difficult to get the parts from Aprilia, but we've got one of these in stock . . . ."

That blew about a month later. They had also threaded some of the screws on the fairing and lost others, the whole thing started to flap around at speed on the way home.

Next came Citizens Advice and threats of court action. I was originally told they didn't care as, "I'm already going through the courts with someone over an engine at the moment. I don't care, it takes ages".

Then came the threat of telling everyone I knew about my experience with them and standing outside the garage doing the same. Suddenly they traded on their "Good name! and what can we do to sort this".

Money back and a deposit on a new bike. New bike and never went back, never will.

TL1000R

Had it a couple of weeks and the gearbox decided it would round the dogs off so it'd jump out of gear. Doh!

One slightly big bill for entire new gearbox. Shocked

The the monkeys are insanity motorcycles decided it would be a good idea to fuck the cam chains when working on it and to try to get out of paying for them to be fixed "we warrenty this bike but only the gearbox and not the rest of the engine despite the fact we had it all to pieces". Few letters and phone calls later they decided to stop bullshitting and fix it.

Most expensive bike I'd ever bought and it broke the most and needed the most spending on it. However the least expensive vehicle I've ever bought (£200 micra) never broke or needed a single bit replacing. Mr. Green
