Hello All,

For those that dont know me, I am Mikey I recently turned 30 and I am a Fireman. I live in Sidcup Kent.
Been a member here for ages (Jesus just checked......10 years!!) but havent been on here for a while as I have been bike less for a couple of years.
Well I now have some cash ready for a new ride and am wondering what to go for.
I really want a sports bike as the only one I have owned is a '93 GSXR 750 WN. And I have decided on a 600cc as I have priced up insurance for a couple of litre sports bikes and it's still quite high.
So here is what I am looking at:
*CBR 600 RR probably around 03 models are in my budget.
*Yamaha R6 02 03 models (been offered a clean one of these within my budget)
*Kawasaki ZX6R really like the underseat exhaust model but a little out my price range I think. If so I like the model before (b1h?)
GSXR 600 has been left out as I only like the k4 models onwards and again these tend to be out of my price range.

So I have NO knowledge about any of these bikes and a big thing for me is that the bike is sized for me, I am 6ft tall and 15 stone and don't want It to look like I am riding a mini Moto!!!

My budget is around £2500.

So what do you think??

Cheers,

Mikey.

Can supply you with another 750 WN for £900 Laughing

Erm, not too far from you in Maidstone Thumbs Up

Quite possibly pick up a GSXR750 K1 around that price.

The 600s are revvy...some like them, I'm not a fan. What about a litre twin? TL1000R or S are quite cheap to insure. One is sporty looking, one is more half faired but still ballistic Laughing

I'd have the CBR out of that lot.

Will he fit though? I thought the RR was quite a..small persons bike.
Suppose, as always, it depends on his leg length.

Only way he'll tell is if he goes to a showroom and sits on them. Can't be hard to find a showroom with at least one of each of the big 6's out there.

I am open to all possibilities really, started off looking at 02-03 Yamaha R1's and K4 GSXR 1000's. Then thought there is no point having one if I can't afford to insure it. (already pay insurance for a car and a van!!)

I loved my WN but as I have the money may as well get something a bit better!

No local bike shops have any of the 600's I am looking for, will have to go further afield to find one that has some.

Was hoping someone would say straight out this bike is shit or don't get that one cos it's too small, so i can limit the options down!!
Big ask I know as everyone has different opinions, but it's food for thought!!

Thanks for the input guys,

The 600s all pretty similar to be honest as you're looking at the ones that have all gone to pretty 'sporty' (versus the CBR-F, G/J/A ZX6 etc).

May find insurance is quite cheap on bigger bikes, so worth giving them a look-in too.

This all depends how big and tall you are, what riding you do, what your riding style is like, what you want to use it for.

I'd probably spend about a grand on an SRAD and the rest on trackdays, personally.

Why not?
Up to the legal speed limit at least it should be neck and neck.
I've happily chased R1s around on track and managed to keep up if not pass on R6s.

not saying a R6 wont keep up with an R1 just knowing the guy next to you has the bigger bro

Thankfully I'm perfectly happy with the size and performance of my 'package'*, so don't feel insecure and the need to make up for it Wink.

Was always amusing on trackdays with the minitwin when people realised they'd been passed by someone that had a half or lower power bike.

* cc of my bike, of course Wink.

im 6'1'' and 14 stone and i have had 2 600rr's, never had a problem fitting on it and being comfy.....well as comfy as you can be on a 600 sports bike, but you dont buy them for the comfort.

I've had the underseat zx6r (P8F) and was thouroughly dissapointed with it, i've also ridden newer gsxr's and the cbr feels so much better in every way. I have never ridden an R6 but from what i hear there completely gutless unless your right at the top of the rev's and the gearboxes can be a bit weak on the older models. But saying that, an R6 is probably the next best thing IMO to the cbr.

some guy was telling me at the motocross track that a guy on a 125cc was in the same class as the 450 and 250 and he was beating them all.

its not what you ride its how you ride it

Exactly - and thus it's all the sweeter when you 'beat' someone on a bigger bike.

125cc bikes run in with 250cc 4 strokes - but as can be seen by KTM moving down to a 350cc 4 stroke and winning against 450cc 4 strokes - as you say it's certainly about how you ride it (and in those cases lightweight along with usable power.)

Thing is with motocross is there is alot of skill so power is not a big thing, on a road bike it's still skill but not as much as mx , it's easy to be pinned down a straight on a road bike but alot harder doing that on a mx bike so power on a mx bike is not really as useful as it is on a road bike, but what every I love both Smile

Riden a 2002 gsxr which was a nice bike, never road an older r6 but I love my r6 which is 2011 model, been on my mates gsxr 2008 I just felt I wasn't on a sports bike so found it abit boring with the r6 you have that aggressive feeling with it which I like and I think that's how a sports bike should feel ,you just no you have a beast between your legs Smile with gsxr it felt like I was on a sports tourer :/ . Me personally .

Put two slow riders on motocross bikes and you'll find the one with the 450 as opposed to 125/250 is quite likely to do a lot better - as not only can they make up time on the straights, but they can more easily get on the power with the big midrange.

Put two fast riders on the same bikes and there probably won't be a massive amount in it.

About the same with road bikes, I'd say.

Thanks guys,
A lot to think about it seems, gonna try and get out there and sit on/test some of these bikes and see which feels the best for my size and style of riding.
Will let you know how I get on.
Mikey.
