OEM Yamaha vs Hi Flo air filter

Hi guys. Im doing a service on my 2001 r6 as its just past 24,000 miles. Have priced up a OEM air filter at £45 and a Hi Flo at £15. The bloke at the yammy dealers said to stay away from the hi flo's and that he would never put one in his bike. Should I pay the extra and go OEM or be tight and buy the Hi Flo?

Got the hi flo filter in my 02 r6 runs like it always has and mixture is not affected. Hiflo filtro make a lot of the oem filters anyway.

Personally i think if he is looking at it from a purely filtration point of view he has a point.

Some high flow filter's depending on the type and construction don't filter out the dust and debris as well as a paper element will.

Alot of decent performance filter's are very good though, and are easy to clean/look after so that it's a non issue.

I've never yet seen a paper element filter that flows as much air as a same size oiled cotton gauze filter though!

I dont know if the hi flo filter is a high flow filter as such its just the brand name i assume? Not sure tho.

Thanks Phil thats good to hear. Do the hi flow filters come pre oiled or do they require oiling?

HiFlo Filtro is the brand name not a "High Flow Filter"

the 2001 R6 uses an oiled foam filter not a paper, or a cotton gauze filter so your post is totally irrelevant to the OP.

HiFlo Filtro have been around for a long time and supply filters to OEM manufacturers for several big manufacturers such as BMW, so they ain't dodgy cheap and nasty filters.

I have one in my 02 R6 and have not had to adjust fuelling, have noticed no difference in running from the standard filter, no difference what so ever and I'm happy with it.

Fray, they come dry like the standard ones, you just soak it in clean engine oil and then squeeze out ALL the excess, I just use Tesco own brand 10/40 for the filter, I'm not wasting good oil on it
