Hello all,
I am a new guy to this forum but i am looking for some opinions on which bike to buy. The choices are a 2004 R-6 or a 2004 GSX-R 600. I have read reviews on Both and the Majority seem to favour the GSX-R, but i have always liked the R-6 alot. Any opinions or help appreciated, oh and i will be riding it in Germany (no Speed limit!) where i am currently working. Thanks in advance, and safe riding. Very Happy

Both are very nice bikes... I think they perform and handle just as well as each other too? But you've read reviews so if you still can't decide then I presume your just not sure what you'd rather have.. ?

Personally I'd go with the................................................

GSXR600.. suprisingly.... the new style ones are much nicer than the older ones.. the 04 R6 is nice but it's nothing massively special looking...

Best thing to do is see if you can get test rides on both, then you can pick the one you feel most comfortable with. Personally I'd be very happy with either!

Buy the one you like.

All the 'one's better than the other' crap spouted by magazines and mates who've read magazines is of virtually no consequence in the real world with an average rider. So get the one that fits you best or comes in the colour you like. Thumbs Up

I would pick the GSXR. But you really should go test ride the both of them before making any decision. Performance wise, I doubt you'd notice much difference really. Just go with whatever one you prefer the look of and any features you like.

I would pick the GSXR, not just because I own a 2001 model but because the R6 is now looking dated, its had no major changes for a long time. The GSXR got a big change this year so is now looking a lot sexier and performing a lot better than ever. Cool

Like others have said, ignore what the magazines say.
They're both great bikes and both of them have the speed and power. Get what you like best.

Personally i'd go with the gsxr just because i've ridden both r6's and gsxr's and prefer the looks and handling of the gsxr.

I would normally of said yellow but they used way too much of it on the 04 model, go for blue and white.

Personally i'd choose blue + white aswell, even though as bendy said there are lots of them around but it's the colours a suzi should be!

My favourite gsxr600 colours were actually the blue and silver K series ones they did. Damn google images though i can't find a decent picture of one to show you.

They do Blue and white, yellow, and black. I like the white and blue but it is common, but then it would match me leathers! Rolling Eyes

I thought the black and silver was only on import models?

Or if I remember I read somewhere that said the black and silver was a 'special edition'.

I think you might be right. Remember that one on display at Knockhill BSB. That was stunning. I can't remember now if it was black and silver or just black. Looked amazing anyway.

Here's the paint scheme's I was meaning. The plain black one could well just be the one with the orange that someone has just repainted plain black. The silver and black one is actually the 2003 one so not quite as nice as the 2004 bike.

The only thing I want to add to this discussion of inferior non British bikes is:

The finish on Suzuki's of late has been somewhat ropey.

You might want to take that into account! Thumbs Up

Ride the R6 first and you will buy the Gixxer. Ride the Gixxer first and you will buy the R6. Its that close. I have had both and each one has its good and bad points. Also depends on the kind of riding you do. I found the Gixxer a pain to commute into London on but much much more fun on the twisties.

Of course you could be brave and try a 636. best of both worlds then

Paul

Officially there's a black and red? (looks orange to me) as pictured.

There is an all black limited edition 1000 with a Z designation though. GSXR1000Z to be precise.
