Hi all,
I have a Kawasaki KE125 engine (2-stroke), and was just a little curious when thinking about lubrication, ect.
I always thought that the 2-stroke oil which mixes with the fuel is used to lubricate the main bearings. Someone suggested that he thought it was the gearbox oil that lubricated them, which slightly put me in two thoughts (this was in reference to a different 2-stroke engine), and made me think that if it was gearbox oil that lubricated the main bearings, it could easily get into the crankcase which isnt good, of course. Whatever lubricates what doesnt effect anything for me, i was just interested to know.
Cheers,
Andre

The main bearings on the crank are indeed lubricated by the two stroke oil.

You friend is getting confused with four strokes, where the engine either has its own oil supply or shares a common oil supply with the gearbox.

Karma hi dude,

dont know your engine ( but probably there is a manual on this site, disc valve at one end of crank with flywheel at tuther)....suggests non gearbox lube of main bearings, but lubed by oil in fuel or injection..........

but some 2t engine do use g/box oil to lube the main bearings, eg rd250............ Very Happy
