I'm currently on a 50 and wont be able to ride a 125 until after jan 2013 which is when the new law comes in from what i can understand. Am I right in thinking that I have to have the a1 license and be restricted to a 125 for 2 years before i can take the a2?

also can you carry pillion on an a1?

cheers

You can carry a pillion on any FULL bike license, regardless of restrictions...

Yes, and yes.

You'll be able to sit the new A2 as soon as you turn 19 regardless of whether you've passed A1 or not, so the only real point of A1 is to get the L plates of, take pillions and go on motorways, if you fancy doing that on a 125.

What's wrong with motorways on a 125?

My daily commute is on the M6, on a 125. Went to Liverpool and back yesterday (bloody hot in full gear!) on the M6 and M62, got to 75 on the way there, couldn't get past 65 on the way back. Bloody headwind!

I've done motorways on a 125 before; only really the M1 and M69 though. It felt almost dangerous to me because of wind, low speed and other drivers. Not to the extent that I wouldn't use them again though, but I would always take another route if I knew one.

Taking a bigger bike on the motorway is so much more confidence inspiring and easier.

Rode from Nottingham to Leicester on a 125 Intruder on the A1 on a bloody windy day. Never again. I love my fat ass lardy sofa like ZZR6 so much more because even heavy side winds are only a minor distraction.
