Posted: 19:29 - 28 May 2012 Post subject: Crack in rear disk |
 |
|
Hi guys, ive just been out in the sunshine scrutinizing my bike (2001 R6) as I do most day and have come across a crack in my rear disk. The disk is in pretty bad condition and ive had a replacement saved in my ebay watch list for a few weeks now just had other things to spend my money on. KTM forks seals decided to piss out etc..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220993970832?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1916wt_1189
So now ive had to bite the bullet and order it along with a new set of pads. I use my bike every day to get to work and also for hooning around the lanes etc
So the question is would you lot trust it for a few days maybe a week untill the new parts arrive and i can get them fitted saying that ive proberly been riding like it for weeks?? Also what do you think of the replacement disk ive got lined up?
Heres the disk

Depends how often you use your rear brake, I never use mine so that wouldn't bother me too much, saying that.. I'd probably never notice ____________________ 2017 KTM 350 XC-F - 2014 Yamaha R6 - 2005 Yamaha YZ125

Too much braking. IE such a scenario
Someone coasting but using constant brake down a hill. Disc gets hot, expands, sometimes warps, sometimes cracks.
I gather. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Another option could be to drill a small hole at the end of the inboard crack to stop it propagating further. At least you would know it couldn't get worse. Plus it's one more hole for cooling. |

Well I fitted a new Brembo Serie Oro disc today along with new pads so I'm all sorted.
Don't think I'd bother drilling a disc when a new disk only cost £88 not worth it imo.
Thanks for the advise ____________________ Bikes - 2001 Yamaha R6, 2011 KTM 250 EXC and 2007 Honda CRF 250 |
