Strange electrical problem killed the weekends ride.
My worry is that if I get someone to look over the bike, they have to take the bike apart and i don’t trust dealerships much anymore. The thing is, I have no idea what to do...here is the description.
Started the bike up in the garage, no problem (Never had a problem starting before)
Rode to my girlfriends place, went in, got some water and stuff for the trip.
Came outside...nothing on the key, no power, no servo’s resetting, no dash, nothing.
Suspect the battery.
Call a friend five minutes away, and ask about a charger.
Try the bike again, everything works and I start the bike.
Ride to his and park up, ask him for the charger just in case.
Put the key in, nothing.
Since then, nothing at all. So i checked the fuses, they are fine...check all of the block connectors i can see on the loom and nothing looks out of order.
I turned the key and wiggled the loom coming from the barrel, nothing.
I’m stuck for ideas without testing and i don’t think i can do that.
It is fitted with an alarm but it really isn’t the issue here, the alarm is working perfectly and i’m sure it wouldn’t have this effect on the ignition.
So any help or ideas would be brilliant. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

First thought was a dodgy kill switch. However, that isn't supposed to take out all the electrics (I know as I've hit it once by mistake when riding in the dark).
Does alarm have an immobiliser feature?
Another idea just occurred is a faulty ignition switch. Once on the old GT you could put the key in and apparently turn it on but wouldn't start. Key needed a little fiddle first to click into position. Touch wood it was sorted with penetrating oil and WD40.
Best of luck, keep us posted as diagnosis may help someone else sometime ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Went to have a look at the bike last night, the first thing i looked at was the battery terminals.
The green cap that covers the terminals and connector block was loose...i instantly thought i’d found the problem but unfortunately it’s a little more sever than that.
The connector block looked great on the outside but when i pulled it off the ignition and alarm went crazy...it appears that moisture has corroded two pins inside this block so badly, they are like children’s wobbly teeth about to fall out!
No idea what this part is called in particular but I’ll need a replacement.
Hopefully this is it, I’m 99% sure. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Yeah, the terminals act like a sacrificial anode.
Seen this quite a lot on bikes, usually the main unswitched live leading up to the ignition switch.
The corrosion can go quite a long way up the wires under the insulation so make sure you cut them back to clean, bright copper. I've seen me have to cut back into the loom and splice in 6-8" of new wire before. If it's really bad and fiddly to get at, I've seen me run a whole new wire in paralell to the loom.
Apply dielectric grease or vaseline to the new terminals to prevent recurrance. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
