Anyway of tracking this bike down?

The rose tinted goggles are on, and I've decided that I'd very much like to try and find my first ever road bike and see if I could buy it back. DT50MX on an F Plate that I sold back in 1996. Just checked askmid.com and it's not showing up as insured currently.

How do I go about tracking it down for this foolhardy quest?

Request the info from the DVLA using the reg number.

To be honest, if it's not on the road at the moment there's a decent chance it's long dead.

My first bike was fairly similar to yours...a TS50X...I'd be worried that much as I thought it was awesome at 16, it might just feel like an incredibly slow and basically crap bike if I rode it now.

Perhaps you shouldn't risk shattering the lenses of your rose tinted spectacles

Unless its been sat for 15 years, Its scrapped I reckon.

97 would put it before SORN so liability date wouldn't change each year

It was a solid bike when it was sold - fresh engine rebuild, 12 months MOT, etc. so I doubt it was a mechanical failure. Guessing it may have been stolen and burnt perhaps, maybe crashed...who knows?

Could have been converted for off road? or may well still be alive as a field bike. But then would be impossible to track down, but a DT50 is the sort of thing that is quite likely to be used as a kids off road bike.

My Cagiva Raptor is still taxed, would love to find out who's got it and make them an offer. But I very much doubt the DVLA would give me their details.

this made me think about my first scooter, gilera vx125. loved it when i had it. was proper quick (to me).
last tax disk ran out late 2009 so i imagine it ended up crashed or burned out.
this made me look at them on ebay, maybe some sorta play thing.

I just put the reg's of all the cars my parents had when I were a kid, not one of them is still being taxed . Kind of understandable really, they were shit heaps 15 years ago.
