That was very American "Dawson's Creek" cheese feeling video. Did make me want to jump on the bike a little though.

1) He waited to check with cars turning right and cars were coming the other way. So disagree with you on that one.

2) Amber light means STOP, but in my book it means GO. I'd have done the same.

3) Didn't see all the way to the end.

1) it only takes a second... there are lots of people out there who say, "it looked safe" really, is it work the few seconds you make up....

2)in my old job i saw too many amber and red light jumpers have accidents, at the end of the day, amber means stop again, its your life your playing with... therefore a copper can give you a ticket for it and 3 points. regardless of what you would do, tis guy is learning and should at least learn the right way.

nice vid anyway.

I liked the vid but it seemed to me that one or two unnecessary risks were taken for the sake of it.
I'm a little more cautious than you but then I reckon its better to be late than late.

For once I agree with covdude. Your riding doesn't seem very good to be honest but you're a learner so that's to be expected. But please don't try and get your knee down when you're obviously not very experienced. And if you're trying to get your knee down when your head is still in that position then your body must be very twisted. If you're going to do it at least do it right. Your head should be next to the mirror.

You have bigger priorities at the moment than learning to get your knee down.

As to that yellow box overtake, I never overtake when there's a junction. Even though you could see (and I agree with Bubbs to an extent) that there were cars coming so they wouldn't of turned, it would of been one hell of a stupid move if they did turn into the oncoming lane (despite on coming cars) knocking you, the overtaker (as they wouldn't of seen you) off your bike, down the road and quite possibly into oncoming traffic. Not just an over the bonnet crash then, you're being deflected into cars coming the opposite way.

Never overtake with junctions, especially more so as a learner. People are just too stupid. Regardless of the fact you'll go through hell sorting blame for a claim.

I would say that in actual fact his riding is generally quite good. The so called 'risks' he took aren't risky at all.

I would personally not overtake on the RHS in the box junction but the approach was slow.

The amber light was clearly on a one way street where it would take ages for the lights to change. I would do that.

The roundabout is a bit of a target fixation thing, you can't see it on that video but there is quite a steep incline so where he nearly went into the barrier it's actually quite uphill.

He wasn't overly confident cornering so I suggested going round progressively faster on a quiet roundabout.
I see much worse riding every day. And the overtake with the bus, the road is so massive I usually overtake between cars anyway.
Oh, I'm the rider in front.

I don't know whether I agree with that but it might be a good idea. What isn't a good idea is to try and get his knee down. Whether he said that as a joke I don't know but if you aren't confident in cornering that's the last thing you want to be aiming for. Need to learn to corner comfortably before you start doing things like that, the outcome is what was seen in the video

I'm pretty sure that was a joke. It massively helped my cornering as it shows in a controlled way how much more the bike has to give.

Everyone is so judgmental on the internet. I'm sure you all ride demon quick with the utmost of safety ALL the time, and have never fixated on something and ran a bit wide, without serious consequences.

Next time I go for a fun ride I'll post up the results so you can all tear it apart. Jeez, noone died, and no kittens were killed.

If that Toyota had flashed the Citroen, I guarantee he would have gone without looking and you'd have been underneath him. Exercise caution and patience. Not every car is an overtaking target. Thumbs Up

Just watched the video, good quality but I dont like the cheesy music in these types of vids prefer to hear the bike (even if it is a125).

Didnt think the riding was too bad for a learner and I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone on here who hasn't gone through an amber light like that at some time or another.

However I have to agree with the comments about the overtake on the right of the Citroen, dangerous for the reason above, all it needed was for him to be flashed out by the oncoming cars and you're stuffed.

Yeah of course I have, but I haven't posted a video of it onto BCF, you should know what was going to happen when it was uploaded.

As for the OP, if that's not how you normally ride then that's not bad, the only things that I didn't like were the overtake on a junction and the end bit on the roundabout, which make you look a bit incompetent, but if you only uploaded them because they weren't normal then fair enough, but expect people to criticise in future.

The bus overtake was fine in my opinion too, I know what it's like to have a 125 and get stuck behind something slow. I can't fully see in the video but it looks like a very wide road and you had good visibility so I see nothing wrong with what you did there.

I don't see anything wrong with going through that amber light either, he had plenty of time. It would have been much worse to slam on his brakes than it was just to calmly go through.
