High mileage xt660

hi folks just recently passed my test well chuffed i am so been on the look out for a new bike of the supermoto variety ive come across a few mad priced drz's and also a very cheap xt660,

the xt in question has 56k miles its 2002 the miles are a bit high but i wouldnt mind if the bike had a fair few more in it just wondering how many miles these engines are capable of i wouldnt fancy forking out for a rebuild after i bought it.

56K on a single is a bit mad, I would't touch it personally, unless it was very cheap. The DRZ is a good choice if you're on your 33bhp license or you want to get into supermotos, not too quick though but extremely reliable and tons of mods for them.

The XT is just as much a supermoto as a DRZ imo, bikes like KTM's 990 "Supermoto" and the ones are the fakes. My 690 is a beef cake supermoto as well, 140kg, same as the drz, but most of the hardcore bikes are under 120kg and converted from competition enduro bikes so highly tuned.

Aye it's normal, usually caused by air being injected into the exhaust to combust unburnt fuel to reduce emissions. Either that or the carb hasn't been set up right. Some people want silly money for DRZ's, I paid £2K for my old one (2006, 3,500 miles), you just have to be patient.

Agree with the above, big singles can be harsh on the crank and big end. Unless you know what you're doing mechanically then I wouldn't risk it.

How about a CCM? I've seen a few nicely priced ones recently, seems all the posers want DRZ's or KTMs now.

I think CCM's use Suzuki engines anyway The 404 is a DRZ engine, not sure about the others. Quite uncommon bikes though.

Husaberg & Husqvarna are the way to go if you wanted to be more unique. Husaberg are owned by KTM mind (and it's very obvious on their later models!), but you don't have to tell people that
