Hello,

Any help is greatly appreciated i need this bike to get around being only 16.

The bike takes of and then loses all power, the revs drop down completely to idle and it will not pick them back up no matter how much throttle i give. to get it to go again i have to release the throttle and then go again.

If i stop and rev it does okay as when it first takes of and as it does if i can get it going at higher rpms (its quite a powerful little 50) but if i pull either brake to a certain point i lose all revs again and it just idles and will not rev?

Opinions and steps i can take and report back to help diagnostics?

the bike is a Honda Vision ne50mff

Sounds like a carb problem, strip and clean. a new plug would do no harm either.

Are you sure it would be the carb, how would i go about cleaning it do i take the whole carb off the bike or just the bottom?

I have fitted a new plug a few weeks back, put the old one back in to see if it was the plug but it made no difference

My bad, it has no carb but PGM-FI electronic fuel injection instead. No idea how that works but it sounds expensive when it breaks. Honda dealer?

I think thats a bit modern for my bike Wink mine is from 1989, pretty sure it has a carb, i was just wondering if it was an electrical issue rather than a carb issue?

Have you checked that there's a good spark? The spark could be breaking down under load, also is the plug cap in good shape? Air filter fitted & in good shape? (could be drawing too much air if it isn't) Could be fuel related though so remove the carb, strip and clean (a Haynes or similiar type fo manual will be very helpful).

I had an old E plate NE50 years ago, always started on the first kick but was painfully slow. This was mine;

Good luck with the fault gent. Thumbs Up

Thank you for the reply, your old ne50 looked very nice! Mine is very fast for a 50 and outruns most other moped. Nice to get a reply from you as i have actually read about your bike in other posts!

I have today cleaned and re fitted the carb with no change. I have gone over all the connections all fine, lights horn etc all working as normal. Changed the plug and again no change.

It does defiantly feel like an electrical issue almost like the there is not enough power going to the spark plug at certain points. That would also explain the brake issue as maybe when the brake light draws power the spark plug loses it.

How can i check the rectifier and the cdi are working correctly? Does anyone have any ideas what electrical issues could cause this

Are you actually seeing a good solid spark from the plug (should be a nice fat blue spark), is the plug wet or dry after you try and run it? My NE50 was good for around 31mph like most of the Visions I've seen/heard of, sounds like yours has been fettled with if it's doing better Wink

I fixed one off these before, iridium plug and clean the carb, electronic parts cleaner or carb cleaner does the job, if its still dying off check the seals on the carb mount should do the trick.

After spending the whole day going through the checks suggested and more still had no results!

Plug sparked nicely and the carb seems perfect!

Then reading through another thread here i gave it one last try. Took out the battery and gave it a long charge on the solar panel. Refitted and turned the bike over. Was expecting the same loss of power ass before but no!

The bike ran like a dream! flew around some backstreet's and came home, although the brake was still affecting the bike at certain points and i think i noticed some points of struggle on my blast around.

Me and the old man have come to the conclusion (still just a theory) that there is a short in the electronics somewhere possibly the brakes. This is sucking power from the bike so with the full charge it is overcoming the power drain and riding true but when the battery is slightly lower it gives in the the short and the bike struggles to get power to the spark plug.

Does this sound plausible to you guys? Where should i begin to check the electrics and how?

Another point, when the bike is running be it idling or reved the multi meter reading bounces all over the place from 0.50v to 14.60v

That doesn't sound good, I would check your main earthing point to the frame.

You deserve a medal!

Began checking all earths on the bike only to discover one of the main earths for the bike is bolted through the starter motor to the frame.

A week ago my starter stopped working and the day before these issues started i had stripped the bike down and discovered that it had come free from the bike snapping the two bolts that has previously held it in place.

I disconnected the wires from it and electrical taped them. Then the issues began, however i did not connect the issues to the starter motor.

I simply reattached the earth that had previously been connected to the starter motor and the bike is now running like a dream!

Happy days!

Thank you everyone for your help in solving my problem!
