Hi i have decided to purchase the Gilera SC 125cc. But i have been having a few problems as i can not find a trusted source to purchase the motorcycle from for example a dealership, would also like to add that I'm not really a fan at purchasing a motorcycle using gumtree/ebay, as I'm a noobie and too polite so there is a 90% chance of me purchasing a lemon.

https://i45.tinypic.com/2qu8cgl.jpg

Got the funds, just need to find the bike.

My step brother had one, not a bad bike, he didn't really have any problems with it, apart from the clutch cable but that's a consumable.

Check out general buyers guides and do some research into the specific things to look for on that bike.

Typical things are
-brake discs, no lip on the edge, front and back, of course.
-fork seals: make sure there's no heavy oily rings round the shiny part of the fork (the stanchion), and no oil is running down the back of the fork leg.
-Tyres, make sure its not on, or too near the minimum tread marks.
-Chain and sprocket, make sure chain is adjusted properly and lubricated, make sure sprocket teeth are not hooked over in any direction and the teeth aren't too thin.
- Oil level, just check it in the window, and try to find out when the last change was (check 2 stroke oil level too)
-service history, try to make sure as much service history as possible is obtainable

General buyers guides will fill in a lot of blanks and stuff, but thats just a small hint of what to look for Thumbs Up

HTH

buy from a dealer and get ripped off by a professional rather than an a guy just selling a bike. I have a few mates that deal bikes and love them like brothers but I would not trust them as far as I could kick them.

An aversion to these sites means an aversion to the vast majority of second hand bikes out there.

Any other sites that offer classifieds for second hand vehicles come with the same caveats as these ones, you're just as likely to end up with a munter.

Just MTFU and deal with buying privately, or pay through your arse for perceived purchase security. I've got no dealer horror stories to draw on, because no one I know has been enough of a silly gay to buy used from one.

My first bike purchase was at 17, with no one holding my hand, and from a private seller. It was fine, the bike was great, life was good.

Buying privately is as simple as walking away if you don't like the bike, or the seller. You're not committing to buy just by going to see it!

Against my better judgement, here is a website that can help https://www.uk.gilera.com If you want to last in here without being told to take your L plates and jog on, try being a little more grateful to someone who was trying to help!

See you in the Workshop section soon then.

Why on earth do you want to buy a 2-stroke 125, when you don't know enough to spot a lemon? Confused

If you're 21+ (or 24+) and planning to keep it for long term unrestrictd lulz after getting your license, fair enough.

However, if it's your first bike and you're under 21, it's really not a good choice. You'll want something used, cheap, 4 stroke and Japanese branded, smash in your tests' back door, then get on the bike that you really want.

Maybe because 4t 125's are for the feeble?

However, I wouldn't personally go for a Gilera, I'd be looking for a nice Honda NSR125.

Same as the Derbi GPR.

You'll go through more starter motors than petrol.

It will cost a fortune to insure.

It will do 70mph, same as most 125's.

It costs less* to buy a CG or YBR and pass your tests, sell that and buy a restricted 600.

You aren't too far from me, I guarantee any 2 stroke bike you buy from round here will be either ragged, stolen or about to pop.

*New anyway...still think you'll be safer on a standard 125 and doing the mods.

How much power does an 11kW restricted 2-stroke make? Thinking

Truth to tell, when I've cleared out the garage a bit, I'm pondering a 2-smoke myself for a laugh. But then I've got money to burn, no need for it to be working on any given day, and I hate the Goddamn environment.

I suspect some or all of that doesn't apply to the OP though, thus the probing about what he's after.

Just gonna quote something from a site about sc 125

The SC 125 is a model of motorcycle introduced in 2007 and sold for one year only, in the single cylinder 125 cc and it is a sports model of the house Gilera . In reality it is virtually the Derbi GPR 125 Racing which were applied different colors, while the rest is completely equal and destined also to SP Championship .

Keep looking... that 'perfect' bike will turn up eventually.
Old Hindu Proverb: If you sit at side of river long enough; the body of your dead enemy sure to float by.
And it will be wonderful to know that you HAVE the exact, perfect 'first' bike, while you are sat, frustrated by the new stepped licence laws, unable to have anything 'more' for perhaps another SEVEN YEARS!

FFS.... we do NOT ride bikes becouse we are 'risk-Averse'.

Heed the advice mate, take a fucking chance! Go buy something! ANYTHING! And get out there fucking DOING!

29 Weeks to licences of DOOM and YOU are wasting it, fuck-arsing around, trying to find, not ONLY the daftest learner bike you can, but also trying to find one from a 'reputable' dealer, AND for 'sensible money!

FOR FUCK'S SAKE!

Its ITALIAN!

It ENT going to be a paragon of reliability in ANY shape of form.... BUT you some-how think that this is a 'risk' worth 'mitigating'?!?!?

You have been told, that the BIGGEST risk you face is falling off......

Its SO fucking high its almost a certainty.

THEN all that fancy plastic you so covet will be FUCKED......

BUT, no..... lets ignore that fact, and worry about the minuteai and provaricate and dither, procrastinate and generally PISS AROUND, worrying about stuff that DOES NOT MATTER..... then maybe you'll find some ready made excuses for even more provaricating and procrastinating and generally NOT gripping the fucking bull by the horns and doing the JOB!

Geez! This is what you are like BEFORE you get the bike, God help you when you are on one!

"Oh..... there's a gap..... shall I over take this car..... shalnt I.... shall I.... nope... gap gone..... OH! I'll grab THIS gap" SPLAT!

There's a lot of sparks happening, and a lot of noise going on, but at some point you have to stick the fucking thing in gear and get it MOVING!

Consiuder this an apropriately applied size eleven derri boot up your arse to GET THE FUCK ON WITH IT!

Its only as reliable as the fucktard looking after it.

I can make japanese bikes scream in agony after 10 miles, come to think of it the most reliable and easiest to start bike I've used was a Ducati Monster Laughing

Think some of you are being a bit unfair.

It's the same as the Derbi GPR, which is also the same as the Aprillia RS50

I had the Derbi GPR 50 for a year, did 4000 miles on it and it never cost me a penny. I didn't replace ANYTHING. Literally filled it with fuel and oil and rode it.

The 125 is the same, just with the yamaha DT125 engine which will be as reliable as the rest of the bike.

I quite fancy one tbh, my 50 was great fun and the 125 would be even better. Can't fault them. If you want one get one, and use ebay etc to find one for sale at dealer.

I invite you to search the Workshop section by keyword. You'll find that Derbi, Gilera and Aprilia are significantly over-represented compared to the number of bikes in parc.

Anyway, what Mike said while he was still lucid, any 125 is better than nothing, but there are better 125s (for the purpose) to be had for less.

If you're determined to have it, wave cash under his nose and ask him if he wants to bet that his highest bidder won't be a scammer, drunk and/or a fantasist.

I still don't understand why you're limiting your search to that particular bike. Do you understand that the only thing stopping you from getting on a 33bhp 500cc+ bike is you?

I'm assuming the desire for a Gilera in particular is a peer-pressure thing and driven by his mates saying "woah that's cool".

OP: do your test and get your A or your A1 or whatever your age permits and *then*, if you must, buy a Gilera. But you can instead, if you like, buy an R6 (and restrict it to 33bhp if required; a tragedy but needs must) and leave your ped boi mates for dust and get all the laydeez. And you can laugh at your ped boi mates who don't get their tests in before Jan 19th and are stuck riding wheezy 125s for years while our anti-bike government moves the goalposts over and over again.
