I know some people love modifying/abusing bikes, but please can you do it with something a little less beautiful in it's original state.

If you want to 'improve' a Honda, how about bastardising a DN-01

You'd have to be nuts to have done that without good reason, they've been worth a lot of money for quite a while now.

My guess is it started out damaged.

Even if it did, that's a horrible mess.

That headlight is filth. other than that, I can see why they'd do it, although my approach would've been a little different.

:edit: Hadn't looked at the back. Remove the seat/tail unit, and then I might think it's OK.

Would you ever actually email one of these people and ask them why the hell they've ruined a vintage Honda!?

Urgh, single seat it and we can talk. Except we couldn't, because of those piss-take pipes. Even the most Keystone of Kops wouldn't need to refer to the regs to pull that thing over and start handing out the tickets.

If the CBX club reckon it's worth £6800, then someone from there can have it for that. Wink

So how would you all feel if I built a 350LC hybrid with RGV forks and a YPVS engine?

If you modified an LC to make it handle better/go better then thats fine. To do a cosmetic excercise on a CBX (and a shit one at that) is tantamount to heresy. Burn the witch etc.

Its got a mono-shock back end, I suspect that it started life as the later 'pro-link' example, quite possibly the ugly full-fared version.
For a long while the Pro-link Bol models were bargain basement territory; unloved; and many got butchered to make 'customs', whether moto-martin cafe-racers, or even chops.

Either way, its likely its on of 'Those' bikes that has been a perpetual project for ternty years, that has never been ecconomically viable to restore...

In which case, why not do 'something' more interesting with it?

But THAT?!?! Nope thats not 'interesting', that IS just plain ugly!

Maybe next owner will make more of it?!

Purely because it looks like it's been disembowelled and a massive engine is hanging out the wound

Don't like the colour though Mr. Green

The slab yokes are too big and look ridiculous, the modern running gear looks totally out of proportion on a chassis that would have been intended for 19 inch wheels. The whole lot together just looks completely incongruous and is as if there's been no attempt to make the whole lot blend.

Assuming the plate is original, it's too old to be a Pro-Link, we didn't get them until late 1980 (81MY) so the earliest should be on a W.

I agree though, there was a time (albeit briefly) when CBXs were just old bikes, so it was either a wacker or a long time work in progress, started when they were cheap.

I also hope somebody does more with it, that big old lump is still a thing of beauty and it deserves some higher quality surroundings; if I had the space, I wouldn't mind having a crack at it myself, but not at that price.

I don't think it looks that bad, but there is no accounting for taste - see what I pulled up when I was looking for CB750s: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-cb750sohc-chop-hardtail-/160818169981?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item257182887d#ht_658wt_87

Chop the rear end off, and that'll be OK. Even like the headlight and colour.
