Leaving tomorrow for Mongolia via France > Belgium > Holland > Germany > Poland > Ukraine > Russia > Kazakhstan > Russia > Mongolia > ???.....
Might take the ferry to Turkey from Russia on the way back and do the Balkans, i'll see how i go on the outward journey.
Been planning this trip for a good 6 months now, packed in the job a few weeks ago, all visa's have been obtained, bike is in decent nick, have arranged a pair of TKC80's for the XT600 to be waiting for me in Novosibirsk, taking the morning ferry from Dover and don't plan to be back on British soil for a good 2-3 months, Im excited and nervous in equal measure as the furthest i have been is Spain/Germany but it will be an adventure one way or the other.
Cheers to Nath/Joe/Tatters/G and others for advice during this planning phase, ill do a write up when i get back, hopefully with a bunch of good experiences to share ____________________ [Current Bikes - GSXR-750 K5 & C90-97 ] [Previous Bikes: Runner 125, YBR 125, GS500, Bandit 600, Hornet 600, ZX6R-99, C90-99, R1-99, XT600E-04, GSXR-750 K4, CRF250L '16]

Funnily enough, I was wondering this morning if you had left already.
The XT is a beast, when the going gets rough just point the XT at it and hang on, it will get over anything.
Oh, when the bike starts coughing and spluttering, check the choke hasn't come on before you start taking the bike apart. Don't ask me how I know
Good luck |

Hey BCF,
Thought i would post a quick update, Am in Almaty, Kazakhstan, resting here for a few days while i await the mongolian visa.
No problems untill now with the bike, then yesterday it was running rough, when i checked the plug it was fouled, so changed the air filter and plug, which helped for 20kms, then the problem reoccured, found a garage in town via HUBB, they have checked the valve clearances and stripped/cleaned the carb, seems to have worked, fingers crossed.
Europe was a blurr, ukraine was shit roads, russia was awesome (got buzzed by a pair of fighter jets approaching the kazakh border, top gun style), random hari chrshnas in the middle of nowhere, Kazakhstan is bloody vast,
Tried of not speaking the lingo, but still having a blast, just have the one photo to post from FB, of the bike near Baikonur Cosmodrome!

I will never complain about british roads or driving again ____________________ [Current Bikes - GSXR-750 K5 & C90-97 ] [Previous Bikes: Runner 125, YBR 125, GS500, Bandit 600, Hornet 600, ZX6R-99, C90-99, R1-99, XT600E-04, GSXR-750 K4, CRF250L '16] |

Hi BCF,
I made it to UlaanBaator via the northern route of Tashanta - Ulaangom - Moron - Bulgan. Easily the most challenging riding of my life with waist high river crossings, mountain climbs and descents and mud sand and gravel everywhere, no road signs or roads.
Great off piste riding and on the whole the mongolians are vey good peOple. Numerous familys putting me uP in their yurts. Food is good too.
Unfortunately on the day i was due to make it intO UlaanBaatar city 50 miles before the tarmac started i burned out my clutch plates in some deep mud, rode the last 150 miles/10 hours with the bike on the back of a mini jap itzu style truck, drifting in the mud, 2 wheels etc.
Am staying in this coOl guest house where all the Overlanders come hoping wemoto can get the parts out to me.
But what a ride, ill do a proper write up when i get home ____________________ [Current Bikes - GSXR-750 K5 & C90-97 ] [Previous Bikes: Runner 125, YBR 125, GS500, Bandit 600, Hornet 600, ZX6R-99, C90-99, R1-99, XT600E-04, GSXR-750 K4, CRF250L '16] |
