PostPosted: 17:14 - 06 Jun 2012    Post subject: Motorbike cover stolen. Why? Reply with quote

Well popped outside my flat this morning only to discover that my bike was missing its cover.

For a second I thought that maybe, just maybe, the wind may have blown it off in the middle of the night but seeing as I actually locked it to my bike with a cable lock and had it tied down using some old rope I instantly dismissed that thought.

So someone had actually gone to the trouble of cutting the cover from the cable lock it was attached to, removed the rope that held it down and stolen it.

Has the economic crisis really gotten that bad? It was a cheap cover anyway but the monetary value of the cover is not the issue here. The real issue is why on earth would anyone want to steal a motorcycle cover?

Suppose I should be glad that they didn't mess about with my bike and left it in one piece.

Have any of you experienced this sort of madness?

Common for this to happen one night and then the bike to be gone the next (gives them chance to check for alarms and what not)

Might be worth investing in an alarmed disk lock today...

Park it somewhere else. Seriously, log out of BCF and move the thing into your kitchen if you have to. It's been seen, and it hasn't been forgotten about.

Go.

They are close and they will be watching, now they can see when you dont bother to chain your bike up or to a post Evil or Very Mad .
They also now know what bike you own

They did something similar to me (local scrotes/chavs) but I just got another cheap cover .
Because it was cheap, they were less inclined to steal it.
All my chains and locks are clearly visible outside the covers so there is no mistake that this bike is locked up!

Works for me Thumbs Up

Shithawks, you might get a return visit to pinch more than your cover. I tend to only chain my cover through the front wheel so shithawks can lift the cover off the back wheel & seat, see the two hefty chains and padlocks underneath and leave to find something easier to steal.

Evil or Very Mad

Actually it was the one night I forgot to activate my alarm. What are the chances?

Well looks like I better get round to putting in new batteries for my disc lock alarm too just to double up AND I probably should start chaining it to something.

If they were "clever" about it surely they wouldn't have cut the actual cover off but merely lifted it off and put it back on when done checking it out? I'd have been none the wiser.

Cheers for the insight guys. Guess I've got a few sleepness nights/weeks to look forward to Sad

another thing is to put your reg in graffiti paint in big over the bike cover. ok it ruins the appearance of the cover but less likely to be nicked.

When I bought new wheels for my car, my old wheels were in totally shit condition, tyres worn out aswell. I knew I couldn't sell them even for a tenner, so me being lazy taking them to a skip I left them in my drive way, and few days later they were gone. Thanks to some low life they saved me the trip to the skip, stupidity has no limits.

Well here's hoping my cover went to some homeless guy who needed it rather than it being some local jakeballs wanting to nick my bike.

Still annoying nonetheless.

Maybe they wanted your Motorcycle cover, but didn't want to obey the law, so just stole yours.

Will have got money weighing them in along with other scrap - they'll have been driving around looking for stuff to nick, so just a case of hopping out and chunking them on/in.

I once left a broken vacuum cleaner outside my flat in London and the next morning noticed that someone had cut the plug off it. Now either they were walking past and had a knife on them, or they thought "I'm having that", went home, got a knife and came back. All for a plug. Neutral
