I was watching one of these generic police voyeurisms over the weekend and this really made me laugh.

To set the scene, plod in a car following a biker. The bikers in position three, bang on the speed limit, checking his mirrors every second or so, ie. riding by the book. It's a small bike, probably a 125, but no L plates.

So plod decides the bikers probably a teenager who's not passed a test but ditched the L plates, and these kids "often ride illegally and anti-socially". So plod blips the siren, biker does a text book 'oslm' to the kerb & stops.

Plod swaggers up to him and smugly says "hello mate, you passed your full riding test?"

Biker says "yes, in 1954"

I fell off the sofa laughing.

Very true but not many are still 17, at least not mentally.

Dunno, the bright red glow from retreating plods' face obscured the biker.

Yes there was although I waited until 1955 to take mine. I took it on a 1926 CS1 Norton that I used on the road and for vintage competitions. The examiner looked a bit sideways at the push-bike lights because it had no dynamo ( before the days of alternators) but eventually decided it was OK as it was 11 in the morning.
They made you ride round a circular route with the examiner dashing through the cross-streets to catch you unaware. There was an emergency stop which was the examiner jumping out from behind a parked car which I thought showed more dedication than sense.

With a Jam Sandwich all up in my business, yes, I'd be more concerned by the potential insanity from the slaphead banging on my back door than by the blue rinse lurking in the junction ahead. My nearest deading to date has been from a panda being driven by a mentalist.
