my first bike was a xr125l that was sadly stolen. i recieved a phone call with my renewal quote(how/why i dont know) and it was £94,657.57 per annum with £4000 excess. i want to see if anyone has anymore daft quotes as this one.

Erm, got quoted 900 on an XR125 once.

Ended up getting it £80 from Bennetts.

Did get quoted something seriously silly on a Triumph Daytona 600 when trying to help someone out, like over a grand Laughing

My current quoted me £196, an increase of £100 from last years price so I went elsewhere and it goes a little bit like this:

Went to Quidco and through there went to Go compare. That earned me £1 cash back.

Best quote was from Swinton at £93 with 0 voluntary excess and 250 compulsory.

Got the quote ref number through my Email and went back to Quidco.

Went through Quidco to Swinton website and entered my retrieve quote ref number and paid for the policy and earned £27 cashback from Quidco.

TL:DR version.

I got my insurance, by the time you take cash back into account, for £65 for the year. TPFT

When training in insurance, one of the guys I was looking after got a call from a 20 year old for a ferrari, cost of quote was £8200, foreign licence so classed as provisional. Guy took it there and then. Tried to get a price on his brothers merc, but as he was 18 we couldnt find a company to cover him.

Highest was something like £12k for my 2.0D corolla when I first passed my test, it's as slow as a dead cat going up a hill. I thought it was quite amusing.

If I put silly cars in then I could get some silly prices but that was the worst genuine quote.

In 1992 Norwich Union dropped their 'Rider-Policy' bomb-shell; they withdrew it. Since 95% of riders HAD NU Rider-Policies, this was a 'problem'.
It was an even bigger 'problem' for me. Not only was I only 'just' 21, and the few remaining Insurers were talking about restricting policies to over 25's or over 30's
I had spent two years NOT getting my tests in, as they had just introduced the 'Persuit-test' and didn't have enough examiners! And every time I had managed to get a test apointment.... 3 month waiting lists were not uncommon! Frigging bike got nicked! Three times in two years! & Insurance were NOT keen to give me cover on another.
I had a CBX550 sat in the garage....
I was quoted £1800, TPFT, on what was a £900 bike!
I asked for a quote on a CBX750, an £1100 bike..... £1800
OK, what about an FZR1000 EXUP.... a £3500 bike.... £1800
Well THIs is just DAFT!
What about a Honda CB250 Super-Dream... a £300 bike.... £1800
OK... I see a pattern emerging......
What about a Kawasaki KR1S, a £3000 bike..... £1800
Yup... OK, lets be daft.....
MZ 250 ETZ......... £1800? What NO! Ah... OK...... £1790! Oh-KAY!
C90.... dont tell me....... £1800
Seemed to be a figure resonating there..... didn't seem to matter WHAT the bike..... £1800
WHERE did they get THAT figure from?
Oh, yes... that was what they had cumulatively paid out on the three theft claims on the 125!
Actually, it wasn't 'quite' so consistent, but near enough.
I gave up and bought a car. Came with 'Any Vehicle with Owners Consent' cover...... so left the CBX reg'd in my Uncle's name & rode it on that!
Three years later, in 1995, I tried again.... Things hadn't improved much!
While at Uni I had promised myself a Moto-Guzzi Mille GT1000 as a graduation present to myself with my first proffessional pay-packet... but by the time I was able to go looking they had dropped it from the catalogue and gone 'trendy' with the DR John Replica's.
Ended up looking at FZR1000's, and found a nice-ish one for sensible money, with decent finance package... which was fine until I went to get insurance.....
Buggers STILL wanted £1800! Monthy insurance was MORE than the ruddy Finance!
Had to wait another two-years before the market re-aligned and I could afford to insure anything for 'sensible' money!

Oh, STOOPIDEST quote ever?

Bought my eldest a C50 for his 16th. He was getting typical teenage silly quotes so I thought I would run some in my name, just to see.

£18! Fully Comp!

Had the Under-Writer on the 'phone, because the sales assistant had to 'reffer' it!

Was a 'quirk' of their 'discount' calculator... and the quote price was LESS than thier basic admin fee of £36! But by the time they had worked out the premium, then deducted discounts, they actually ended up discounting the admin fee! Under-writer reckoned he would 'honor' it though; laughing that, it would teach the 'nerds' that program the computers a lesson!

Similar story when I foolishly bought a MK1 Golf GTi at 17/18 years old then thought about insurance afterwards, was getting £2500-9000 quotes till one insurance company popped up with £1200 fully comp

Took them 3 days to honour the quote, they thought I had fooled the system, then they thought I was fronting it, I then pointed out, car registered in my name, policy in my name, mum as named driver. Thumbs Up

Around £9k on a SWB Ford Transit for social use (planned to use it as a camper van).

That plan went down the tubes fairly quickly.

Was quoted £14,500 or so for my GSX-R, unreal when you consider my car at the time (2005 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Turbo Diesel) was only costing £2400 a year to insure. Neutral. This is all TPFT btw.

Some are just silly, others they just pull out of their arse.

As said above, fathers can get some silly insurance quotes! To insure him on the Virago I own, it's £250 per year TPFT for me but only £28 a year fully comp for him. Laughing!

Some things are just going up regardless though, when we had the Evo 8s their insurance was ~£200 a year fully comp for both my parents yet the next year it just suddenly skyrocketed to ~£600 a year for absolutely no reason, nothing had changed apart from an extra year of NCB for both of them! Laughing! Maybe a lot of Evo 8s were crashed that year. Laughing!

If only insurance companies were regulated, I prefer the system of insuring the driver like they have in some countries. That way, for example, you can pay £500 a year insurance that will allow you to drive any car at all (whether you own it or not), usually with restrictions added like no more than 150bhp or something, but it's (in my opinion) the better way of doing things.

Cheers!
