Not sure if this is how all these 2nd gear failures happen but the Thundercat sounds VERY noisy. Clutch in or clutchless and its only 1st to 2nd.

Pinning in 2nd from 20mph > 90mph is fine, nothing pops out or slips.

Just the noise is there unless you are under 3k or pull the clutch and roll off the throttle and let the revs get really low.

Also the pulling away is sometimes jerky, could be me not being used to the bike but it jerks forwards and has done with pillions on...which doesn't really make them that happy Laughing Feels like I've moved the lever out far enough and its supposed to engage the gear but it doesn't...then all of a sudden on it goes. Evil or Very Mad

what sort of noise?

The pulling away is probably you, I had similar problems when I first got my Thundercat. It seems to have a pretty sensitive clutch so I gave the clutch lever a bit more freeplay and that smoothed things out

The 2nd gear issue is a real shitter with these bikes. It's always in the back of my mind :/

Honestly, get it up on ebay and flog it.

If it was a simple fix the mechanic who previously owned it would have fixed it Neutral

Its a known issue skipping out of 2nd, it doesn't do this...yet Laughing

Might be the clutch...It's due an oil change so will have a look Thumbs Up

Must have the same gearbox as my XJ Yam. Laughing Clunky gearchange and duff clutches.
Mind you it is amazing what a difference a change of oil does.
Definately try this ASAP
Hope it improves a bit when you do this. Thumbs Up

1st to 2nd is a bit agricultural, but I've never been worried about it.

The clutch can get grabby, especially on a high revs launch; mine did the the day I got it (10 years ago) and I have avoided it ever since.

An oil change and correct chain tension can make the world of difference.

It is VERY noisy isn't it Laughing

Low rev pull aways I need to get used to as there is a little slack in the cable which needs to be addressed this weekend I think.

I thought the 1st to 2nd gear explosion was a typical Yam thing, the fazer is very noisy.
