....... on me tod.

So I passed my test 3 weeks ago. I've had the CBR sat in the garage whilst getting a few things fixed. Finally yesterday it passed its MOT (phew....) and I stuck some tax on it.

Well yesterday it rained, rained and then rained some more Crying or Very sad

Was up late and decided to check the weather. WooHooo a break in the rain.......... at 4:00am. So be it Very Happy

So got myself ready and decided a run up the coast would be nice. Finally found a garage for some petrol after the Asda self service didn't like my card Thumbs Down .

Through the Tyne Tunnel I went. Have a decent'ish Blue Flame exhaust so had a rather nice tone going through the tunnel.

First stop was St Mary's Lighthouse (Just outside of Newcastle):

https://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn6/ElScampio/Rideout%201/GEDC0539.jpg

There is a pretty steep ramp down to the crossing (when the tide is out). Typically about 5 mins after I get the bike back up it, the sun makes an appearance:

https://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn6/ElScampio/Rideout%201/GEDC0544.jpg

From there I headed up to Alnwick via the Coastal Route. It was absolute bliss. Dry weather and extremely quiet twisty roads. I had never been up them before and was in no hurry so took it easy. Thankfully I did as the only car I saw on the way up (34 miles) was typically a police car.

Got to Alnwick and decided to head home (the quick way) as I was pretty done in by then.

In conclusion, was well happy even with my annoying whistly helmet Confused .

Lovely photo's. Nothing beats the first solo ride on the big bike after passing the test. I passed my DAS tests and went up to Peterborough on the motorways to pick up my first big bike. The M25 is no place for a heavy slow 125 cruiser. After a hoon around P'borough with a friend on the bigger bike I made my first solo ride home. On the way there I was overtaken by everything. On the way back the only thing that over took me was another bike. Needless to say I was grinning like a lunatic.

As for the whistling helmet, invest in some ear plugs. Thumbs Up

Hartside Pass – A686

Done this one a few times, lovely place, cafe on the top which is a regular hangout for bikers. Do awesome hot chocolates with marshmallows and whipped cream Wink

When I picked up my first bike I had to ride it back over here in the dark, which was a bit hairy.

I remember picking up my one and only brand new bike, (Yam 350 YPVS), which I suppose was my first big bike, although not that much of a jump up from a 250 LC.
I lived in Liverpool at the time and was collecting it from Manchester, (somewhere near Old Trafford), wasn't trading anything in, so I got the train there.

The journey back through Manchester, down the motorway then the East lancs road was the most nerve wracking thing I've ever done on a bike!
Of course just to make matters worse it was drizzling (well it was Manchester what did you expect), and I had to restrict the revs for the running in period.

Made it home alright, but I was petrified of going above the specified rev range, couldn't keep my eyes off the tacho, (I was only young at the time). Laughing

Same here. Had to ride my KTM back from Blackpool and came back that way. Best way to get used to a new bike Laughing My favourite ride is going through Consett to Hartside, all the way through the twisties, then right at the end you come to a town and go right near a car dealership, and that goes on for about 40 miles, but it brings you right out at the bottom of Hartside again near the Texaco (newly built) petrol station. It's great on supermotos, but probably not for sportsbikes, you can get some serious air on the humps if you're not careful Wink

Cafe does nice food but it's eye wateringly expensive. When I was there on Monday they had some lovely waitresses, wish they were on the menu Drooling

St. Mary's lighthouse would be lovely early in the morning, but usually the place is chocka block when I go.

Yep indeed! Although it's just as great going out on the 125 for the first time without L's..

I would have ridden home from the test centre without my L's if I had the tools with me. Alas not Crying or Very sad

My instructor laughed seeing be rip my L's off after my test. Smashed them to pieces and then rode off with a big grin Mr. Green

Bike was pretty dirty when I got back due to all the raods being sodden.

Took a couple of photos of Alnwick Castle from the side:

https://s300.photobucket.com/albums/nn6/ElScampio/Rideout%201/

That's as close as I could get. I nearly gave an old bloke who was cleaning the floors at the visitor centre. I don't think he was expecting to see a fully clad biker at 5.30am Very Happy
I hadn't realised it was all commercialised and can't get into the castle without paying. In. fact you can't get that close without paying Confused

I'm off over Cumbria on Sunday to visit family. Last visit is sister in Workington.

I can see a nice route back.

A66 to Penrith
A686 through Alston to Haydon Bridge
Then the A69 back to North East

Thumbs Up

Not a big fan of the A69, quite boring if you ask me, and often get businessmen in their beemers over taking everyone at 150mph on blind corners because they're late for a meeting. Nearly had a head on with a people carrier on there as well, and an Audi when I was in my car Laughing

ooh i live kinda up that way in whitburn, not really ridden north though but looks nice from your photos, i'm only on a 125 and don't know anyone up here yet who rides so i've not been on any rideouts.

Hopefully will have a job in next couple of weeks so I can jump into DAS and get something more capable.

I get some nice views however as I ride from whitburn to manchester at least once a month and lots of nice twisty rural roads on the way....(however it does nearly take 4 hours on the tiddler)

When I bought my first 'big' bike (SRAD600) the ride home was about 5 miles, in the pissing rain, and there was a diesel slick across most of the road for well over half of the journey.

It took me about an hour to unclench my buttocks after I got home.

Embarassed

My brother had taken me there on the back of his Fazer and ridden home in front of me, when we got back his first words were 'Fuck me, did you see all that diesel? I'd love to find the cunt that laid all that down.'

Evil or Very Mad

St. Marys, been there a few times myself, I'm about a 20 minute ride from it!

Try going in the afternoon and catch the catering truck. I'm told they have the best doughnuts ever.

Looks like a pretty perfect place to end up on your first ride on your own. I finally sorted all my tax, MOT, insurance out for tomorrow so I plan to do the same in the morning. It feels like forever since I last rode out, big grin will ensue all day. Very Happy

Cheers for the heads up on Hartside Pass. Came back via that way. No wonder it's regarding as one of the best biking roads in the country, it has pretty much everything!

Took it very gingerly. There were little rivers across the some of the roads under the trees. Couple with my inexperience meant it was easy does it.

A few pics, unfortunately it was getting late and the camera isn't great.
