Bought these self molding earphones/buds the other day, and they arrived today, so I gave them a go.

They seem really good at the moment as i'm sitting in my living room listening to music, but the test will be taking them on the bike. It's currently pissing down, and gale force winds so I'm not going to be testing them today.

The package cost me £36.00 including airfare from America.

Click here for the website if anyone is interested

Anyhow here is the process.

(You will have to pardon the photo quality I took them on my work phone)

Everything I needed. Also handy to have an ipod to listen to music as it sets.

Mix these two
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/img-20120608-00015.jpg

To make this
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/img-20120608-00016.jpg

Whack it in your ear Red for Right

Blue for left
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/img-20120608-00018.jpg

And here is the result. A 3D copy of my lug hole.
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/img-20120608-00020.jpg

They fit really nicely (for obvious reasons) and easy to pull out and put back in.

I will update this thread once I have actually used them on the bike.

Looks interesting and I'd like to hear (pun intended) how they work out.

I like the idea of different colours but shouldn't the shape really tell ou which ear? Also FWIW always though left side was red (port side) Wink

A bit cheaper but I was thinking of using these DIY earplugs.

Although having googled there are others available - like these.

Yeah I will post once I've tested them.

This kit included earphones which had a special coating on them so that the compound stuck really well to them. I'm sure you could do it with normal earphones too.

This was the first thing I found. Had never seen the molding ear plugs before.

I will pop up my photo's for my version of these. 99p memorex C25's (really good for on the bike, loads of bass too) and the left overs from a set of R&G custom DIY moulded plugs. (£20 for the goo, made a set of plugs and a set of earphones)

There are the other DIY mixtures I think are fairly similar and bit cheaper but I have not tried the fuze earphones to be able to comment on if they are anything more than cheapie drivers.

**Added

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A_N3vzTQxjs/T9Hi_cP52pI/AAAAAAAAE6s/bjuxIcaldFw/s1312/IMAG0282.jpg

Excuse the tardiness of them, they were only supposed to be a quick test but actually worked really well so left the mould in place. These fit in the same way as the earfuze ones by seating into the outer ear, they are just less pronounced.

If I had a full pack of the R&G Goo I would probably just do the same as the earfuze ones by fitting it all the way around the driver to try that out.

Get out on the bike, you pansy. Mad

Eh, I've got a cheap tub-o-goo on the way to me as well. It claims there's enough to do 2 sets, so I was thinking of 1 set of earphones and one au naturel. I await your report with interest.

whats actually holding them in your ear? the original headphone? or does something compress like a normal earplug?

headphones just fall out of my ears after time no matter what type i use (in ear ones obviously not dj style ones)

Mine are tiny and go right in the ear. Put the helmet on slowly and don't yank the wire and there's no troubles. Noise cancelling too, so they dull everything from the moment you put them in.

Same, I've just started using them (my poor ears) and Halfrauds ones work very nicely.

Looks like a cool idea but what makes it better then the fancy noise cancelling in-ear headphones?

Err, nothing. The noise cancelling headphones just block out external noise, fancy ones are usually higher quality drivers, IMO they are wasted on motorcycle riders though as you cannot appreciate the clarity.

Even if you get the electronically operated noise cancellation the overriding wind and road noise drowns out any quality sound.

I tried my shure's inside my helmet and hear the same noise from my 99p memorex's usually.

I had the Earfuze kit before.

I had the grey colour.

Don't bother with the Earfuze earphones though, they are worse than shit. The only good think about them is that the cord doesn't get tangled up.

The actual earplug molding is easy to do and works well enough. I used all of the putty, but really could have done with leaving some out.

The other thing to mention is that they actually end up quite hard. I love to try again with another set where the putty sets a little softer, and more rubber like.

@Rogerborg - where did you get your tub of goo from?

This thread has made me think about sourcing parts to sell these kits myself Very Happy

Just for interest, how many of you would want a decent set of earbud/drivers and a enough goo to make 3 plugs? Cost wise I reckon would be about £25-29 delivered.

It's cheaper for us to buy the items separately.

I can't imagine there is enough demand in the UK to warrant an entry into this market. Save your cash for some bike bling. Wink

Wine-o'clock purchase from eBay, "custom earplugs", "UK sellers", "sort by price (Jockish)". Very Happy

No disrespect fella, but £25?????

You can buy this from ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150828428160?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_4017wt_1364

or this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160815943398?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_500wt_1379

Plus a set of Pound shop headphones.

Total cost less than a tenner.

On the plus side, if you could find enough muppets on ebay, thats quite the profit margin!

Yup, I just got that one. There is indeed enough for 2 sets, so I've done one with headphones and one without. They moulded fine as per the instructions, but hang fire until they've had time to set fully - I'll give them a try tomorrow.

For the 'phones set, I put goo all round the buds so that it goes into the ear canal. Once it's set properly, I'll drill a hole back through the canal part to let more sound through.

Damn...kinda wish I'd known the cheaper alternatives before going the route I went. Well I know know, can buy some decent earphones and buy the putty myself. Rog let me know how yours fare in terms of quality. Also be good to know if they fail in any way. Will be testing mine out on Monday so I'll update on EarFuze then.

I did sourcing decent drivers, i have already pointed out that you can get setup with an ok setup for a couple of quid.
If others are selling £35 to £100 i cant see how if the quality is high £25 would be considered high priced

If your providing proper high quality headphones, then fair play.

But for £25 posted, inc the plug material which we know to be around the £6-8 mark, and postage at say £3, id be hard pressed to believe that any set of phones which you could make a profit on at £14 were of substantially better quality than i could buy myself for that price tbh.

Like i said, if they are genuinely great drivers, then fair play to you.

Well i've now tested them.

They work very well at cutting out the wind noise. However, the sound quality of the supplied earphones was pretty average. They are listenable, but there is no bass so the sound is a bit lacklustre. Still though I was happily enough just bouncing my head to the music on the way to work this morning so they aren't terrible.

Id reccommend going down the do it yourself route and seeing how that goes. Maybe put some sort of thin grip tape around each ear phone to grip the compound better.

HTH.
