This is where I wish I bought a more popular/in production bike.

Evening all. Right, after searching through the BCF archives and using general common sense, I'm not much further than when I started.

My bike needs a new chain and sprockets, the snail cam adjuster (good ol' 80s design) has two 'indentations' of adjustment left, and I get the feeling by the lack of mileage/MOT and service history my bike had a relatively inactive past three years, all indicating the chain has, in effect, perished. The 2k miles I've put on it have finished it off.

So, question: Can you lot help me find the right chain and sprockets to put on it? I'm definite on getting decent quality, so D.I.D I reckon. But what else? Would I be better getting a motorbike garage to install it if I supplied the parts? Or do it myself? Only thing putting me off the latter is the cost of a chain splitter/riveter.

Sorry for my idiocy, but I want to look after the old tractor to the best of my ability, and hopefully learn something along the way.

40 quid, not bad. Double check the year of the bike if ordering this.

Cheers 1888, sorry, I completely forgot to mention I'd checked Wemoto, but I'm always a bit suspect with them - is that price right? Might get the upgrade one, buy cheap, buy twice and all that.

Other part: Is it worth me replacing it myself, knowing that'll I'll need to get a chain riveter, or would I be better off paying roughly the same money for a garage to do it? If anyone in the area (south Devon), could lend their time, I'd sure appreciate and pay for it. I lack not only the tools, but experience in this. Rolling Eyes

Alright. I'm just so paranoid about putting something rubbish on it I'm getting nowhere. I'll order a set at the end of the week, but my original question still stands if whether it's a job I should do myself?
