Which of these three would fit best?

Fun on a track

Thundercat
SV 650
Fazer 600

The bike will be used for commuting predominantly. But would like it to have a fun side and not be 'crap' on a track.

Budget £900 - £1300 - so looking at aprox 2000 year

Out of those probably the Fazer, I'd avoid the Thundercat because of the second gear issues.

Can probably get a CBR600F for that kind of money. Remember the R6 was the Yamaha 600 for that time - it'd just be old stock if you get a 2000 Thundercat I'd reckon, so definitely get an F3 for that money.
Also consider ZX6R G/J.
I would say the Thundercat is about on par to the CBR600f for revviness.

The Thundercat will be the best on track but it has a (heavy) steel frame and second gear issues.

The first generation Fazer has the same engine as the thundercat but with a steel tubular frame, upright riding position and poorer quality suspension and the same second gear issues. It won't be much cop on track.

The SV could well be an ace track tool if you upgrade the suspension a bit, its light, handles well, is reasonably comfy and could be a weapon on track, however it only has 70bhp and does need upgrading to get the best out of it.

1999-2000 CBR600F or ZX6R G/J I reckon.

Do consider the size/weight of the bikes too.

Have a sit on them before you decide, the fazer and the Tcat weigh quite a lot more than the SV/CBR

There's a few CBR600 F4s that are on ebay auctions for under that price.

But it's completed listings that are of more interest to 'the market', so have a look through this to see what sold for. Green items are auctions/buy it nows that have sold.

It's a good representation of what "the market"/people value an item at.
Note, that my search had a maximum of £1400 and limited age range; no doubt others will be going for more too; certainly asking for more.

Classic Insurance about £150 a year.

No excuses for riding around on some gay two wheeled car IMHO.

Old Blade does both business and recreation. Even has a lunchbox under the seat.

And again for the CBR600F, picked mine up for £1000 on 32,000 miles on a 1993 plate.

In fairness the second gear has gone on mine, but it's not really a common issue on them. Engine is still going strong on 51,000 miles.

To be honest, if it is for a n00b who has experience of a four stroke 125, then an SV650 is perfect. Light, comfortable, good on fuel, can be upgraded to make it a complete weapon on track.

Can't really go wrong with them.

Thundercat wins out of the list you gave, I have had both a full faired SV650s and now the thundercat, awesome awesome bike. Yes its big and heavy- 20KGS heavier than the SV dry - but once your on the move its not that noticeable.
