Sticky Tyres?

I've just put a set of supercorsa sc's on my kawa G2, bought race scrubs as they fit the bill for me.

Only thing is I now get noise from the front mudguard if the tyre gets any debris like stones ect on it. Obviously they are sticking to the tyre and then scraping on the guard.

I have put a 120/70/17 on the front which I know isn't standard should be 120/60/17 but I had that size before all be it sport touring style tyre and didn't ever have a problem.

Is it par for the course with very sticky rubber or should I think about trying to alter something.

My supercorsa are the same. Its sticky as hell when cold...let alone warm.

I can't say I get much noise but im 120 60 17...unsure how big a difference it makes, plus my mudguard is probably a little further off the wheel Laughing

Supercorsas have a sharper profile, so the higher sidewall and the sharper profile probably conspire to attack your front mudguard. Could you raise it up a couple of MM with some washers on the mudguard mounting points?

Tyre sizes aren't everything, on the KTM forum some of the SM guys say there are certain 150's sizes that a wider than some 160's

Two tyres from different manufacturers with the same numbers can have a good chunk different sizes before it's on a tyre - with a +/- tolerance of more than 5mm each side, so one manufacturer might be over 5mm on the small side and the other over 5mm on the large side for the next size down.)

I might get another mud guard and try and mod it (mine is mint) and also just wondering if the J or a1p model guard is slightly different as they started using a 65 tyre on those models. Might be worth trying one off the later model.

I use Racetecs on my G2 in 120/70 and have exactly the same issue (unsurprisingly)...I tried shifting it a little bit on the existing fittings which improved it but it still does it...I just put up with it.

It might get better over time as it gradually smashes chunks of plastic off your mudguard Laughing

Like I said with the old michelin tyre it was fine so you can imagine what went through my head when I picked it up with the new rubber on. I thought something was hanging off Very Happy

I'll get a used guard and have a fettle with it see if i can make it better but I'm sure it won't do too much harm, I imagine its only small chippings and the like not bolders!

You can't really move it up without redrilling the holes iirc but you can tilt it backwards and forwards so if one end is closer than the other you can improve it by evening it up.
