One problem I had once, not on a YBR though, was too much oil. When hot the bike would not get neutral. Resolved with oil change.
May or maybe not related to your issue. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Its a YBR. They ALL do this!
Check the selector levers bolted up nice & tight, helps a little. Check chain tensions all good, gear selection goes a bit wacky when thats loose.
But it'll always do it & youll get a feel for when its actually in neutral eventually. Spider sense or something
Regarding the downshifting issue assuming you're moving, again chain tension, clutch cable setup and how many miles has it done? First service is a big un and happens at 500 miles. The dealership will rape your wallet, i wrote up a DIY guide on the YBR thread in bike pictures.
Edit; re read that and as for trying to select gears at traffic lights if its stationary then it wont. Bike gearboxes dont work like that. Let the clutch out to biting point, then try and click it in again and it'll go. Or as stated above just roll it forward a few feet and then try it. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.
