Had to zip my winter lining into my jacket this morning so that's the summer over and done with.
I'll let you know when winter arrives and the thermal grips and mitts come out.

That's my official view. I was hoping autumn and winter just might not happen and it would be summer again. Very Happy Seems inevitable...
The leaves falling off the trees should have given it away.

I put a jumper on under my jacket the other day as well. Bloody good job really as the bike broke down and I spent 5 hours sat next to the A1 outside Wetherby. Sad

I put the winter lining inside of my jacket a couple of weeks ago, it's so snug! Very Happy

I Find the only parts of me which get cold are my 1.Neck, 2. chin and 3. Ankles.

Will invest in one of those neck warmer things to defeat 1 and 2.

Thicker socks for 3.

Thumbs Up

PostPosted: 19:02 - 08 Oct 2004    Post subject: Forced end to the summer for me Reply with quote

First, hello! I've been lurking on this site for ages, but today I really need to post. Shame it wasn't under better circumstances... (see below).

Well, for me today is definitely the end to a really good summer. After a four year absence from biking (moved to London for work, was intimidated by the traffic), I bought a shiny new GSXR600 in May, and put 7000 miles on it. Despite the lack of great weather this year, I had a great time on it. Today it was stolen.

Anyway, remember that the nasty seasons won't last forever, and here's to the good times:

3000 miles around the back roads of Scotland, touring on my own with no plan or proper map. Empty roads, hairpin turns up mountains, amazing scenery and the best bike roads ever. (Tip: If you're going north, please ignore the A9 and its speed cameras and take the A93 through whisky country. You won't forget it).

Taking my own bike on the drag strip at the Bulldog bash, getting the timing slips and spending days putting the data in the computer and drawing graphs of the speed/acceleration. Beating a TL1000 and Speed Triple!

Riding through central london on the 'kill spills' rally, with a police escort closing off the roads and bouncing it off the rev limiter outside Buckingham Palace.

Riding eight-abreast down the M25 on the way to the Brighton Ace Cafe reunion the next day, parking up at the sea-side in a bike park that took 30 minutes to walk from one end to the other.

    Remembering the bikers nod.

Going out with the IAM in the pouring rain, realising that there will always be more to learn about biking.

Going out for a 150 mile journey just because the sun is shining. Getting home afterwards and turning around to do it again 'just because'.

Spending hours with a toolkit and accessories catalogue, picking out shiny things to add to my pride and joy.

Turning up at a bike training school (my father is an instructor), seeing learners wobbling around cones and showing them what they've got to look forward to.

If you see a white transit van, (probably fake) reg no FV51 AYH, or a blue/white GSXR6, reg no LF04 EPY, let the police know. Harris exhaust hangar and crash bungs, no pillion pegs but otherwise standard. Lifted into the van in under a minute, 20 yards away from my desk at work (nr. Prescot, Liverpool), alarmed, chained and disc locked. Cheeky buggers took it at 12:30 today from the middle of a busy car park just when people were milling about and going to lunch.

Looking on the bright side, the NEC bike show is coming up, 2005 models have just been announced and I've got a fat insurance cheque coming up...

Don't let the miserable rain and darkness get to you, buy some good gloves and enjoy those moments as they happen. Can't wait until next year!

I've started wearing my leathers, just a tad too cold for combats,
plus started a second tee-shirt. Razz

I will put the mitts on when there is frost on my bike cover. Rolling Eyes

Put my lining back in on monday, forgot how snug and perfectly fitting it is with it in, felt good, washed the neck warmer, looking into buying new gloves but it isn't too cold yet, just preparing.
And BikerKev Thumbs Up
Made a lot of good points, reminded me how much I should appreciate my bike, even though it isn't anything amazing.
Hope all goes well with the insurance/getting a new bike, going for another 600? Or upgrading Smile Twisted Evil

Oh that reminds me can anyone recommend a decent neck warmer?

Going to work this morning I noticed the whole of me was toasty warm yet my neck was manically cold!
