Took my bike into garage this morning as discs were fading quite badly, and a quick inspection showed a lot of corrosion, so I thought let them struggle.

Anyhoo, as time went by, the guy said "This is going to take a bit longer than we thought, do you want to come back?" "You can borrow our scooter if you want." I've never ridden a scooter, some 61 plate 50cc Peugeot, so I figured why not, it might be fun.

What a pile of gutless shit. Fun was the last thought on my mind. Absolutely no acceleration, and 0 to almost 30 in about... well I kept running out of road so it never quite got there. Why do people ride these that don't have to?

PS: Took them 3 hours, so I'm glad I didn't have a go as it would probably be in bits for days.

I had one when I was 16, but never again!

If I lived in central London, I'd have one just for the lulz. Laughing

Those bikes are for 16 year olds, so they don't kill them selves or thats the theory.

Actually scooters aren't a bad for of transport in the right conditions ie: pottering about town.

If you are used to a push bike then its a rocket ship. I remember getting my ts50 when I was 16, i was afraid to open it up in the beggining!! afraid to do 35mph!!!! I soon got over that Very Happy

It's made by the French. It is not designed to advance at speed. But I'm sure it will reverse at speed Mr. Green

Is the white flag under the seat, or does it come a quick access holder below the handle bars? Laughing

I'm sure it can also be ridden with no hands, just in case you have to raise both hands in the air

Daughter has a 50cc scooter and loves it. Keep trying to get her to upgrade but she just keeps saying it's ok.

For in cities I can see they are fun. Had a run around Hull on one and accelerated from lights better than the cars. Makes sense in mainly 30mph limits. However, used on roads with speed limits above that they are a bit dangerous as car drivers are not kind (no surprise there).

Money, running and insurance costs are lower than anything else. That said I wouldn't allow my eldest to have one, nor my youngest who's pestering for on for his 16th, too much of a target for the shitron sackso crap brigade & their ilk and no power to get outta trouble... Eldests on a 125 Suzi scooter at the mo, it'll do 70 mph and will leave a geared 125 standing at the lights, a much better ride all-round, I even enjoy using it!

Did you pull the 'clutch' all the way to the bar the first time you had to stop, thus doing an epic fishtailling skid?

Simply not worth it, rather pay more than look (and ride) like a tit Laughing

That explains why when I tried the horn, and wondered why it played "I Surrender" by Rainbow.

YES Embarassed And kept trying to pull the clutch in to change up gear Embarassed X 2

I also had a sudden urge to go buy hoodie, change into trackies and a vest. Must admit, I must have looked a bit of a plonker in leathers, boots etc. riding it.

Even worse, you would look like a wigger with a hoodie. May as well get oversized shorts hanging half way down your arse, oversize sneakers with the laces undone, wear your hat backwards, lots of chains around your neck, and have a boom box blaring rap that you looted at the most recent riot.

If you want to look ridiculous, you may as well do it properly Laughing

My 125 scooter was good. Except for cars insisting they had to be in front of me.

I did when I took my mum's piaggio down for its MOT as she was ill.

I also discovered that it had been derestricted and would happily indicate 50mph despite her L plates. She'd never noticed. I did have a bit of a go at the bike shop that had sold it to her as learner legal but only because it was the same place doing the MOT and I was going there anyway.

Yep, it took him 10 minutes to unscrew the two screws holding the top of the brake fluid reservoir Crying or Very sad There are parts on the bike that haven't been touched for a very long time I suspect.

I don't want to be too anal here, BUT - if your mum is over 16 years of age, she can ride de-restricted scooter (i.e. an automatic transmission light motorcycle) as opposed to just a moped (i.e. a motorcycle that has a top speed of 18mph and is blah blah blah).

So, the speed of her scooter doesn't matter as she can ride anything faster than 28mph providing she has L plates on Thumbs Up

And providing the scooter was sold to her registered as a light motorcycle, and not a moped....

But it's registered as a moped and insured as a moped and, most importantly, she wanted a moped.

Like I implied, I only bothered to say something because I was going there anyway. I just thought it was a bit off to sell her something, under the guise of something altogether different, which could actually get her into bother.
