Two bikes but for totally different reasons.

My RG500 because you were always worried it would sieze and lock up the rear wheel at silly speeds.

The bike that replaced it, same as below, a 1990 gsxr110 K - always felt it just wanted to kill me Laughing .

Without doubt I wish I had kept the RG over the gsxr.

I've moved up to faster bikes gradually so nothing has ever been that scary. I do remember being absolutely blown away by my GPZ400 though, coming from a restricted TZR125. I couldn't believe how fast it was Laughing I wouldn't say it was scary though, just impressive.

I'm gonna be lolled at for this, but my SV scared me when I first rode it after coming from a slow 125.

I was being a dick though.

so far probably my SP-1, used to get some pretty intense tank slappers on that. had a few rear end slides from being a bit aggresive with the throttle coming out of corners aswell, i Wouldnt say it was scary though, it was more exiting i think Laughing

My mates Aprila Tuono, I didn't think the jump from a 650 to a 1,000 would be so intimadating. Bike was scary quick through the whole rev range, definatley a lose your licence without realising quick. I think when i move up to a litre machine it will have to be a more sedate bike! Twisted Evil

My gixer750 K1

Its a big bike and Im only 5'1 so had to learn the jumping on and off technique. Most times it didn't bother me and offered my friends mucho amusement when they were riding behind me. How I never lost my licence with it is beyond me but I eventually realised that age and pain in my back and shoulders was enough of a reason to let it go. I miss the speed and have to remind myself that a cruiser can not do roundabouts as well Doh!

Whilst I've never found a bike scary, my Impreza used to make me nervous. Not because it was especially powerful but because it was always slightly unpredictable on the limit and hard to catch when it all went wrong...tended to fishtail. That combined with the fact you could carry so much corner speed in it always gave me the impression it would kill me one day.

Never ridden a bike that felt like that but it would be far scarier than a car no doubt.

Back in the 80's Yamaha and Norton developed a bike for Police use.

The frame was a development and modern version of the Norton Featherbed which then accepted the Yamaha XS1100 engine wrapped in Moto Martin bodywork and the decked out in Police livery.

It looked awsome, in a straight line it was phenomenal, but go anywhere near a bend at more than 30 MPH and it would do its best to spit you off Rolling Eyes It was probably the only bike I ever rode where I felt that fright was brown and warm Wink

Turned out that Yamaha and norton just could not agree on geometry and it is thought that the Moto Martin bodywork caused a lot of problems, and so the idea was scrapped.

A year or so later, Aston Martin Tickford developed a Police spec bike using the Kawasaki GTR1000 engine. Now this thing did shift and it went round corners, but the cost worked out at around £14,000 per bike compared to the £3 - £4,000 the beemers were costing us, so whilst it was a fantastic bike, it was never going to get the seal of approval at those prices.

Husaberg FS650.

Had a go on my mates bike not long after he got it and he told me to pin the throttle in third and see what happened. Longest accidental wheelie I've ever done! It wasn't scary so much, just fun, especially as I'd just stepped off a divvy to have a go on it!

A streetfightered old school GSXR1100 that I was going to buy. I came back after a twenty minute test ride shaking, despite having ridden plenty of litre bikes.

It was then that the owner admitted it scared the life out of him too Laughing

Most scary bike i ever rode rode was an old Z1000 Lawson replica, back in the late 80's. I was a big brave lad winding it up to 130mph, but as soon as i backed off the throttle, it went into the mother of all tank-slappers. I very nearly soiled my rompers and vowed never to go near the thing again. I had another try a few weeks later with a steering damper fitted, which seemed to improve things, but by then i was too scared of it to go over 90!

One of the lads turned up on one of the Kawasaki 750 triples once.

It was tatty and looked old, but could`nt of been more than 6/7 years old at the most.
I took it for a spin, and I have to say that the motor felt really stong and felt like it was getting up to silly speeds rapidly.

In a straight line and under hard acceleration the back would squatt and squirm Shocked .
Not like the front lifting but like the rear end was doing it`s own thing?
The tyres felt like they were made of hard plastic in that I "felt" like it was trying to let go on any corner above 20mph.

I soon gave that back to him and I was`nt jealous of him at the time.
Now I would bite his arms off if he would sell it.

Yes he did sort it out and apperantly it was a much better bike although I never got to ride it a second time Sad

Late 80's KTM 500 2 stroke.

Didn't matter what gear I was in, the front wheel kept reaching for the sky in an attempt to shake me off.

Suppose it wasn't too far from bull-riding.

This it put out 3 bhp at the front wheel and used to leave everyone standing. In fact I came off a few times in the corners !

1981 YZ465 that I bought as a non running shed at the age of 14 having only ever had a Suzuki TS125 previously.

Got it running and although the engine was fit the rest was knackered. No rear brake, wrecked rear wheel bearing so wheel movement, no clutch cable so had to roll down a hill and knock it into second whilst leaping down on the seat to get some traction to overcome the compression. Once bump started you would then just bang it up and down the box.

I will never forget accelerating accross a field in a slight arc flat through the gears with a mate sat on the back with his legs swinging in the breeze. Front wheel off the floor and the rear spinning.

55odd bhp.

Now its as scary as hell but thinking back I doubt I batted an eyelid, being 14 and immortal, as you are.

The following two CR500s just werent quite as nutty.

One of these:

Suzuki GT185 - two stroke madness in a framework that wasn't fit for going above 50mph - it used to seize for a pastime and was the only beast that's ever blown a front tyre on me.

I think it was an old twin shock Husky 500 two stroke on a motocross practice track. My mate insisted I have a go after he had a spill and his arm was hurting him.

I went flying towards a 180 degree banked bend, pulled the front and rear brake. Neither actually did very much, leaving me screaming with fear as I did the best sliding turn I had ever managed as I knew there was deep water the other side of the banked area and I can't swim.

White faced I returned the bike and said that the brakes didn't work. He looked at me like I was stupid and said "It's a race bike, for going fast on, brakes only slow you down.

Appologies, clicked on the wrong google image as I have no photos of the bike as it was 20 years ago that I owned it and it only lasted three months in my posession before i either lost my licence or it killed me Laughing .

This is what it looked like.

It would have to be a Yamaha YZ400F for me. I had a little go on one at a Yamaha off road day a few years back. I had previously ridden a TTR250, a WR200 and a YZ125, but the 400F just sounded and felt like a beast, and shutting the throttle almost stood the bike on it's nose at the end of a striaght. I certainely wouldnt have the balls to race one in a take no prisoners regional MX event. I imagine that until your used of modern open class MX'ers that trying to lap a technical MX course like you would on a 125 would be very silly!

I rode a KTM 300EXC once, that felt twice as powerful as my KMX200, but it wasn't scary like the Yamaha was!

I've never ridden a really scary road bike, (bottled out of buying an RG500gamma) but being on the back of a Firestorm coming home from a bike meeting, i was pretty terrified when the front wheel came up as we were overtaking a couple of car's on a roughly surfaced B-road.
