PostPosted: 12:38 - 15 Jun 2012    Post subject: Ride to Work Day 2012 - Mon. 18 June - anyone? Reply with quote

I see from perusing MCN in the local newsagent the Ride To Work Day is next Monday 18 June.

Anyone going to make use of this when they don't normally commute on a bike? Will any weekend warriors be converted?

Sadly I need to take the missus into work otherwise I'd have been on the bike, just like I normally am Wink

Thumbs Up

I'm on the bike every week day to work anyways, but it'll be interesting if I see any more about.

Might be better if they'd somehow offered free tuition/scooters for the office commuter crowd.

They're not though, thus my "le shrug". It's just a post on a web page, it doesn't make a damn of difference in the real world.

Sorry, I'm borderline psychotic about this. The Get On scheme is pretty good, but I can't really see anything that the MCIA do that actually justifies them tithing the UK motorcycle industry while dealers close down left, right and centre.

I'll be riding, as I do most days, I've pointed it out to our 'transport manager' (we have around 750 staff and ? thousand s-too-dense, so we have a dedicated bus 'service' and the like already) who also rides to try and promote this, well they make a big thing of the lycra hordes/cyclistas ride to work things with free brekie etc, so far NOTHING for us PTW riders... Only the depth varies...

I did not notice any increase in the number of motorcycles/scooters around me this morning. It was pissing out, though. Could be many shied away at the last minute, or as Rogerborg says, it's just a post on a web site.

Sad to admit, I did take the motorbicycle to work today, but in my defence only because I took 2 minutes to portion the wife and so didn't really have time to take the pushbike.

Beg to differ. One of my neighbour's has a bike and freely admits it's just a toy. True I have seen him at Squires, driving his BMW X5 Shocked He wouldn't dream of commuting on a bike. Another neighbour has Ducati and an old Brit machine. Again, would not consider commuting on either. So with me that's 3 people with bikes and only 1 commutes. Based on that (admittedly small) sample 33% isn't most people.

Thumbs Up

Well on the ride in I saw 100% more bikes than usual, mainly tourers and sports bikes that only get ridden at weekends/holidays. Got a few more nod's today too!

And, for a Monday, the M27 actually flowed quite well, except around J7 where the HedgeEnd'ers with their usual 'I'm more impotent than you' attitude just have to be in the outside lane the moment they hit the bottom of the on ramp...
