My mind has gone blank, but I believe there is no free retest for superficial items? ie lights, horn etc

Quote:
When a vehicle fails the MOT test it can be re-tested within the end of 10 working days to gain a pass. There may be charge payable. If the vehicle remains at the test station for repair after failure then it can have a free partial re-test within 10 working days after the original test has been carried out. If it is removed from the premises for repair and then returned before the end of 10 working days it can have a retest at half the original fee paid. If the failed vehicle is taken away but then brought back to the same test station and retested before the end of the next working day on one or more of the following items only then no fee is charged for a retest:
Bonnet, Horn, Sharp Edges, Boot lid, Lamps, Steering Wheel, Brake Pedal Anti-slip, Loading Door, Tailboard, Direction Indicators, Mirrors, Tailgate, Doors Rear Reflectors, VIN, Drop sides, Registration Plates, Windscreen and Glass, Fuel Filler Cap, Seat Belts, Wipers and Washers, Hazard Warning, Seats, Wheels and Tyres.

Wikipedia says yes...

Horn, Sharp Edges, Lights, Indicators, Mirrors, Rear Reflectors, VIN, Registration Plates, Fuel Filler Cap, Wheels and Tyres.

Mine failed on a warning light. The official line was I had 1 day for a free retest if I removed the bike from the garage, or 10 working days if it stayed at the garage for repair.

I took it home, ordered a new switch, fitted new switch, traced fault, fixed fault, and retested 6 days after fail at no charge - the charge is down to the garage, but the 10 days is controlled by the system.

In my experience, most MOT places (including bike) give a free week-ish retest on all items for free.

Certainly round here anyway.

Not sure but if you go to small garages run by Portugese etc... then they will. I got my bike passed for a MOT even though the plate is slightly smaller. They took it to somewhere that did MOT's.

Not 100% on this but I think it's a "If fitted, have to be uncracked, etc"

I got a free retest on my front brake switch (activating light too late) and headlight (Dipped beam was not working)

Tested on monday, failed for said reasons.

Took home... went back next day to rebook test for Thursday

Got bulb on Tuesday when I was there, took home again, fixed brake switch (shaved it down a bit) and replaced bulb

Took in Thursday, Passed.. No cost, (Apart from the bulb £3)

Ah okay, so a similar story to indicators and lights.

"If fitted.."

Thumbs Up

CG passed on the last two mot's without mirrors, and the next one i'll be attempting to get it through without indicators.

Haha Razz

I knew the brake switch wasn't engaging right away but the guy that fitted it said it should be fine so I just left it as it was Razz

As for the headlight... I may of mistook the side lights for the dipped beam <cough> I wasn't riding at night so I never really noticed it wasn't working.
The main beam was working fine... Razz
