Rusty frame

Would this be the correct sequence of removing the rust and treating it?

1. use a drill with a wire brush to get the worst off

2. apply some Kurust to finish off anything that's left

3. smooth the surface with some wet and dry

4. apply some primer

5. paint it

I'm not concerned if it's the neatest finish in the world, just as long as it's not rusty.

Hand stripping a frame can be a pain in the arse to do. Think about getting it blasted, it's not expensive and is a much more thorough job. For example, I can get a frame and swingarm blasted and primed for £40 locally, worth every penny for the time and effort saved.

I should have been more specific, there's a couple of patches on the frame but it's not the whole frame. Plus it's just a 20 year old GT550 so it probably isn't worth a huge amount of effort.

Having said that, I may need the engine taken out for another bit of work that needs doing so maybe I could get the frame blasted, I didn't realise it would be as cheap as that so thanks for the heads up

there was a guy somewhere on here that got a frame and some ancillary components blasted and powder coated for around £100, so def worth a look and ask around for some quotes. at least you know the job will be top notch and will last a long time

Clean off the rust with a drill and wirecup then paint over with hammerite. gloss hammerite will be pretty close to the original frame paint.
