Can anyone give me some examples of test routes they've been on in Lee on Solent? I'm getting nervous about it now.

MOD1 next week then MOD2 the week after. I think I'll be fine on MOD2 actually, but I'm still nervous, and I get anxiety about not knowing where I'm going - wife gets annoyed when we go on trips as I Google streetview the whole thing down to which car park we're going to park in on the seafront! Shocked Just one of my strange things need to know details of locations etc.

So I'll probably be riding most of the routes on the 2 days training beforehand, never the less I'd feel better if I knew the kind of routes other people had taken. Anyone give me any ideas? Paint drawing would be great Very Happy

I think you are worrying too much, I found it a benefit to not know the area I did my Mod 2 in, didn't have a clue where I was going as never been there before.

It meant I could focus on things like cancelling indicators, obs, etc instead of some roundabout someone said on a forum was hard, although I wouldn't think twice about in the car.

You're showing the examiner you can ride safely anywhere (which you should have the ability to do), not just the places you have Google mapped or had a practice ride around.

Man up fella and good luck for it Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Why worry about the routes? If you don't know the area it'll keep you alert and the voice behind you wont send you to sleep.
I honestly think it's best to take test in area you don't know.As your senses will be at 100% throughout.Where as in your own area, you could relax too much and make a stupid mistake.

I cant really remember the routes but they take you out of the test center and into the town where you ride around the little estates there. Then they do a little bit of riding around the naval bases so its all 40MPH zones as you head towards Fareham. Then they turn you back towards Lee and do the hill starts etc.

Just keep an eye on the speed limits as they change often around that area. I'd offer a ride around with you next week but we're moving house soon and things are hectic at the Pinky place.

There is no such thing as a set test route any more, they are free to take you wherever they want (within reason).
Stop stressing and just follow instructions.

I thought it might be better not to know, but you guys who don't know Gosport would not BELIEVE the traffic, and my MOD2 is at 8 in the morning Shocked , just would feel more comfortable if I knew some of the routes whether they take the A32 or not.
Also like I said it's my anxiety at fault more than anything, no idea why I'm putting myself through this stress!! Actually I do know, it's cos I want to.

I'm sure I'll be fine. And thanks Pinky but I'm sure we'll meet up at some point when I've passed. Thumbs Up

Your sig says "DAS booked"
Have you paid an instructor for DAS then?
If yes - why have you not been taken round the usual routes during your MOD2 training?
I used to spend a whole day with students in and around Banbury before their MOD2 showing them the prefered areas and dodgy spots.

You don't need a lifesaver if you are stop/starting in slow moving traffic, just a left/right mirror check.

Lifesavers are for when you sacrifice your safe position in the centre of the lane, so unless you are pulling over to the kerb each time the traffic stops a lifesaver is pointless.

I used to spend a whole day with students in and around Banbury before their MOD2 showing them the prefered areas and dodgy spots.

I've booked a 5 day course with Phoenix, so will no doubt be spending a day riding around the routes, on the day training before the test day.
So yes, this thread is pointless. Very Happy Just thought it'd be nice to know who's done the test here and where they went.

Thumbs Up Cool, good luck, don't stress they just want a safe ride that's all.

I didn't go down the A32 at all during my test there mate. I did go round the 'peanut' roundabout at the end of the Rowner road though, other than that can't really remember much more. I might be able to come out and play on thurs or fri if you want some practice being observed, if not then we'll def have to huckle up with pinky post test..

Phoenix training know all the routes, I did it with them there. In lee on solent they dont generally take you on any particularly quick roads. You will be lucky (or unlucky) if they decide to take you above 40.

It's just wizzing round town stuff.

There are a couple of dodgy speed changes around, where the 30 sign isn't clear or whatever for example.

But like some others said they can take you where they want, and for my test cause the planned route was so busy he took me along quiet roads to get back to the test centre early.

Another thing to look out for is alot of one way streets, just make sure when you're exiting you're towards the left or right hand side depending on which way you're turning.

Also its likely they'll take you through lots of places where there are parked cars either side so you're not actually expected to go the speed limit through there, as long as you're making progress.

Good luck anyway, who's your instructor?

I might be available on Thursday too. I'll stand there and agree with Swampy constantly as he points out where your going right or wrong.

I don't understand why people would want to check out a test route?? After you've passed your test, what then...only ever go back to your test route...because you know it??

Nah didn't think so...

Best advice I can give you, is to enjoy your test, enjoy the opportunity, and relax into it, ooze confidence and smile...

I did my CBT with them but was put off by my bike battery dying twice and me having to wheel it across the road and try to kick start it, plus the radio died after about 30 mins on the road so had to follow him everywhere with no instruction.

Had Martin for my MOD1 training (passed this morning Very Happy ), and got Brian with me next week for the MOD2 stuff - I'm not sure I really need a days work on MOD2 TBH but it'll be worth it if I pick up a few hints about things - especially as I've done some bits with Martin can now get Brians comments as well.
