The VFR 400 and 750 are very different bikes.

Unless you are talking about the RC series bikes for the 750. If you are, it is a very bad choice of bike as a first big bike, as they are very rare, don't do much more than a fairly modern sports 600, but cost 3x as much and parts probably more than that.
If you're talking the vfr750, it's more of a sports tourer.. I reckon it'd make an ok first big bike.

The VFR400 is a dedicated sports bike and would make a good first bike if you're wanting something you can thrash a bit and learn to ride fast on.

Get the 400, they're more than enough for a first bike. Probably be wise if you were planning on restricting the 750 anyway. Smile

If you plan to have the bike restricted then a 400 is really the biggest you will be able to sensible have.
Restricting a 750 allthough not impossible is illogical and impractical.

VFR400 is slightly expensive for what it is, but aside from that its the perfect under 21 post test bike Thumbs Up

There's always early CBR400RRs (NC23s), you can get them for a more reasonable amount than VFRs, and in stock form are about as quick. Servicing is cheaper too (inline 4 vs. V4)

Which VFR400 would you be looking for? If you're going to be restricting it anyway you might as well go for the 400 and enjoy the handling Smile Thumbs Up
Then when you can deristrict it make you can the choice if you want a sports bike or sports tourer.

my dad has the vfr 800. Man, that thing is rapid. I mean, I can power wheely my 125 in second, the 800 will do about 145mph and is a death trap for any non-experienced rider. My dad's been riding for 30 years and was an IAM instructor, he still has a few mishaps.

stick with a 400, and even treat that gently.
